Broderick Jones' nugget about his struggles

Jones issues lie with his technique and footwork, which are fixable with the right coaching. Of coarse it is up to him to learn and get better. There is definitely upside with this player compared to Steele who is pretty much as good as he his going to get.

Someone had a great post about the jump sets he was used to from Georgia verses the kickslide style that Arthur Smith’s staff liked. Seems he never took to that and Clayton Adams&co are jump set style OL coaches.

They obviously liked him and he’s a fit with their style. Add in some weight that should come in the coming month or so and he could turn into a solid starter at some point in the season.

If he does develop into a starting caliber RT, team will certainly get him on a cheap deal and send Steele packing without the need to fill in with a high draft pick.

I think we should treat him like another Tyler Guyton. Has all the physical traits required for the position but needs refinement with his technique that will allow him to become more consistent. For what ever reason Pittsburgh failed to develop him, certainly Jones shares the blame. Pickens came from the same team where he was a solid starter into a star here, perhaps Cowboys can turn him into a serviceable starter.

Based on 2026 Cowboy record how do you know how many spots you lose in making this trade . And who knows about 6th rounders who’s left , unfortunate they bore you .
 
I can't read the X messages (thanks Elon) but Jones is coming into a contract year of course he doesn't want to be label as a swing tackle. Guy is trying to get paid and hopefully the motivation is there on his end.

At least you would think that is the case.

Dallas will make the playoffs most likely. Pittsburgh likely won't.

So our spot will be late in the third, and Pittsburgh's will be in the front half of the fourth.

That's about 10-20 spots when we switch, probably on the lower end.

Sixth round picks turn into Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah. Almost never hit.

We need another tackle desperately, so trading down a few spots is more than worth it.

Lol, could be the case. I will say the Cowboys have had success with getting guys like Leonard Davis and Marc Colombo to reach their potential after fizzling out with their prior teams so hopefully they can turn around Jones career as well. Maybe he needs is a name change to Tyler?

Who knows where MM takes the Steel city it’s all speculation . I’m just not a big fan of throwing down draft picks especially for one year players . Rasheed Walker ex Packer now Panther is who the Cowboys should have targeted in FA last signing season .

Exactly, and it’s not like Pittsburgh has been a hotbed for OL talent recently.

We may miss a bit on mid to late round OL, but we are generally flawless in evaluating those 1st round caliber guys. Pittsburgh has been below average there for some time.

Cowboys had Jones as a 1st rounded as a pick, so there’s some hope there with talent turning into productivity here.
 
I'm no doctor, but it seems to me that Broderick Jones might need more time to recover 100% from his vertebrae fusion surgery. With that in mind, I intend to be patient with him until his recovery is complete.

I'm also hopeful that he'll eventually be able to be prove being good at RT. Steele was given too many years to improve his pass blocking but is on a steady downward spiral there. I hope Broderick Jones fares decently once he's ready to assume the RT role. If he merely proves capable, we can rejoice.

This trade could work out just fine.. there was a time when it was acceptable for it to take 2-4 years before a NFL player to get to where he’s going. He could be one of those on that time table. I know that all of the CZ coaches see it otherwise, everyone develops differently orrrrr not at all. Lol DC4L ✭✭✭✭✭

Ideally, I think they’d like him to replace Steele, both this year and in the future. I think they’d like to ‘transition’ the money they’re paying Steele towards a long term contract with Jones.

Yep I dunnno though. Let’s say Jones beats out Steele, and Steele becomes the swing.
Steele absolutely sucked at LT and Guyton even if much improved, still has a decent chance of missing some games

I just don’t feel as if they solved the problem, but what do I know? Problem is people around here are right more often than the FO.
