Romo's BAC was reportedly 0.15, nearly twice the legal limit

The reported 0.15 BAC makes this substantially more serious in my view. The driving decision is the biggest problem. Whatever the circumstances behind his alcohol use, Romo got behind the wheel at a level of intoxication that was almost twice the legal limit. That's not a minor lapse in judgment. He was putting other people at risk.

He has taken some important steps in the right direction, So good on him. But it's too early to know the answer to the bigger questions. Hold him accountable for driving drunk, but don't shame him for acknowledging that he has a substance problem and getting help for it.

I don't think one awful incident—especially when the person is acknowledging a substance problem and seeking professional help—should permanently define Romo. I'd be much more interested in what Tony does over the next 6–12 months than in continuing to pile punishment on him for what happened in July.
Glad to see a thoughtful, balanced take on here.

we get it
you hate Romo
If that's what you see....be my guess but this long, poorly timed apology without a face doesn't move me at all. I couldn't care less if it's Romo, you or anyone else; true contrition comes from the heart. I don't feel that......at all. I'm feeling a person with limited options who is sorry he got caught.

I'm willing to bet a red penny that some of his close-circle people had warned him about getting caught, but he didn't listen.

Romo protested his arrest claiming he was only playing gin rummy.

I guess mine would be .30 as i would take down 8 in 2 hours with a few shots and a puff or 2. This is just for breakfast
Ahhh, the good old days. That was me in my youth and then again for about 5 years after my retirement. Started slowing down and then quit almost 3 years ago. Don't miss it, but maybe if the Cowboys win a SB.....

That's hammered. I bet the story about him blaming his problems on back pain is baloney as well. Simple explanation is he's got a substance abuse problem.
Not sure I’d say hammered. He was over the limit and shouldn’t have been driving. But I think of hammered as falling all over, slurring, not in control. Romo didn’t appear “hammered” to me. People definitely handle it differently. Some are fall down drunk after two drinks.

As far as him having a problem, I feel sorry that he is in that position. He retired because of the pain, his body couldn’t take it anymore. He got dependent on pain killers and apparently has moved on from them to alcohol. Hopefully he can find something that gives relief without the negatives.

How did you do Tony?

I got a 14!

Wow, how do you shoot a fourteen when playing 18 holes?

Oh you meant at golf, I was counting my beers, not my strokes.

Need a ride Tony, Naw I'm good.

Does that about cover it?

Dude has plenty of money to spend on an uber. I have no sympathy for him, no excuses for drunk driving, not when you're younger, and damn sure no excuses when you're in your 40s
So wait, you mean to tell me the stat padding and lack of SBs doesn't get him a pass?

I feel bad for Dak if he ever get in one of these situations.

I imagine his wife and kids are so proud…

There's nothing wrong with a few pints after 18 holes with some lunch. He must have had 6-7 on an empty stomach....too much Tony!
