A lot of you seem to believe that rinse and repeat is going to produce change. It's not going to cause Dallas to get any more aggressive in free agency than it has been, and building through the draft without supplementing through free agency has been proven to not work.

What is the definition of insanity wrongly attributed to Albert Einstein? Doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Our roster-building strategy has remained the same since 2013.

For Dallas to be aggressive and mortgage the future they need to be on par with teams like the Rams/Seahawks/Pats. They have yet to prove they can hang with those type of teams.

There's for sure more to the draft , but to completely give it up without knowing how good the team is isn't a good idea.
 
If something happens, it won’t be until the deadline IMO.

They’re gonna wait and see where they’re at by then.

If it feels like they are one player away from being Super Bowl competitive. Then they will pull the trigger.

My thinking also.......I also think they may already have a potential target ( player (s) ) in mind. It's a matter of all parties reaching an agreement, which may never happen.

Yeah I agree. Worth noting a few moves they’ve made have gotten made at a later date. Brandon Cooks was at the deadline but waited until the offseason and got him for what I consider a bargain. They got Quinnen waiting until the dead line. They inquired about someone this offseason and I think at a later date they will revisit the market for that player IMO.

They can't hang with teams like that if they don't try. I seriously believe in 2014 and 2016 that we were just a few moves that the Joneses would not make from contending for a Super Bowl. The weak links came back to haunt us. I think there is a good chance that happens again this year because we really haven't changed approaches while a team like the Rams is selling out to make those final few moves to try to get back on top.

I'd rather go for it and fail than sit here and wait to see if we can prove we can hang with those teams when we need those moves to prove we can hang with those teams.

I also don't see it as mortgaging the future. We've done a lot of investing through the draft into the future. Getting a player like Crosby for the next three or four years isn't just trying to win this year. It's supplementing those draft choices for the next few with talent we'd have to luck upon in the draft.

Keyword is 'we'.......THEY apparently see something in this player ( Jones ) that gives them confidence he can replace Steele. I'm saying Steele cost; they have all praised Guyton's improvement, Schotty, and even McClay. Not so much for Steele......don't be surprised if Jones replaces him by mid-season.

I will be. Pittsburgh gave up on him after three seasons in which he sucked at right tackle and left tackle (although he was making some progress at LT last year before the neck injury ended his season). Now, he's coming back from spinal fusion surgery and is working to regain strength and weight.

It's possible that what they ask of him in this scheme will be a better fit for what he can do. It's possible that he's a slow learner and it will all click into place for him. I just see no reason to expect much based on the evidence we have.

Now, I still like the move because we were clearly deficient at swing tackle, know we are not great at right tackle and are at least trying to do something about it. It would have been more proactive to have recognized and addressed the problem in free agency, though, but that's not how this front office works.

Ok, this is just nuts. The dude has seriously underperformed his entire career, was the Steelers Mazi, had spinal fusion, is still working on increasing his weight, strength and conditioning and he’s “taking care of offense”

And we gave up what will likely still net out in the trade math as a third round pick, in he deepest draft in a decade or more.

I’ve been on board with the coaching changes, and was ok with getting a bunch of B+ or below players in our earlier trades and free agency. It was probably the best we could do with what we have.

But setting a 3rd round pick on fire in exchange for a guy who will not make a significant contribution this year and is a free agent in six months really bothers me.

Quite right. Shocking trade. Cowboys had a very high grade on him. That was several years ago.

Who says it would just be an investment in one year? Would likely improve the team for exactly the 1-3 year span to which you refer.

As for the bit in bold, that’s total speculation. It doesn’t have to be that way.

Draft correctly and you will more than likely get better value than some mid season trade

Speculation based on previous trades-not enough received for Parsons. Overpay on Jones, Mingo, Lance, R.Williams, J.Galloway.
When it comes to trading, Jerry is not very good.
