How can they do this when the Giants won't tell us who is starting or what they are planning to do on offense? Seems like we just don't want to think about the possibilities.

Eberflus runs the Ryan family defense. That is a complex D, so much so that Rob Ryan had Eberflus at a few stops because the D required multiple folks to teach. That was what Eberflus did.

You also need veteran leaders who step up and watch film and teach the younger players. We lost that when D-Law and Lewis left. They were the leaders.

this is a much more athletic group for sure. so that alone will help. not only that, we have better skilled players who probably will know their assignments better and don't get caught flat footed like Murray and go off on their own like Williams used to do. discipline is key and Parker emphasizes that.

with all of that said, I expect this defense to be better, but they will make misakes that will make you scream or scratch your head. there are a lot of new starters and new players playing together for the first time and new scheme and coach. their athletic ability and instincts will help make some plays, but they will make mistakes. so expect that. they will have some wow moments and some oh gosh here we go again moments. also, we won't have the whole play book as yet. not ready for that.

with that said, I expect this defense to be in the 20s after the first 5 games and that's ok. fans will say, not much improvement, with all the investment, same ole same ole...but I look for this defense to improve. as they get used to one another. as they open more of the play book. as we become more aggressive, we will see this defense improve over the course of the season and by end of the season be in the low teens (10-15) range.
