What is the deal with Barham?

So I have been out of the loop most of preseason. From what I read though Barham was one of the rookie standouts. Sunday was his first NFL game so you have to give him some grace, but what is the deal with his effort. There are several plays showing him jogging to the ball. A really bad look. Regardless of his talent, I would send a message to him and make him inactive. Being on the field is a privilege, not a right. You got to go 100% every play.

Pretty much ignore everything you hear in pre-season. Means absolutely nothing.

He's a rush edge, not a ILB. He also seems to not give 100% effort all the time.

The biggest thing is to throw out anything you heard during training camp. Some hype stories end up being the real deal but just as many if not more end up being nothing but fluff. Half the success stories from camp end up being cuts.

The truth about Barham is he’s a very good prospect but still a prospect. Bad game and the effort issues are concerning, but you can’t throw in the towel on him yet. Realistically a mid round LB is going to have ups and downs year 1.

Barham is a rookie 3 rd round pick. He has no clue whats going out there, and having a rookie DC who also has no clue whats going on out there is not helping. The best you can say right. now is that he is showing the energy and physicality you want at LB. Now we just have to catch up the grey matter before he gets injured.

What would you have liked him to do when I watched that full speed shore it looked like maybe he pulled up and he had hit him It would have been right the pylon or the guy was gonna step out of bounds I think he realized he wasn't gonna get to him that's it there were two other guys standing next to him did you miss the other jerseys he came from all the way across it was already going to be a touchdown that's why he probably just stopped why take a risk on hitting him late Et cetera..

This is one of those moments who was it that said this was it Woods or Awuzie, He said that you can't go 100 percent all the time like full speed and hit everything that moves because sometimes you're not near the play and it may look like you're jogging or checking out but it's because I don't believe he thought he could get there and I don't believe he could have either it was too late guy had the corner guy had the pylon what exactly would you like them to do hit him really hard so it's what I don't know what the down in distance was but it would have been a few inches from a touchdown in the next play they would have scored a touchdown anyway do not understand the circumstances in the situation that they were scoring on us no matter what on the next play why chase him all the way right at the pylon and maybe hit him out of bounds or late and get a penalty y'all would have loved that too..

Happened twice in that game before that or during that game where late hits were doled out so sometimes guys that know that they can't get there the guy had the angle and he probably just said the guy was already gonna score but hey who are the other guys with him can we call them out who are the numbers next to him let me let me go do this for you...

was that 53 and 26 or 28? Three guys all seeing the same thing and they play football for a living they had the corner it was gonna happen So what you wanna late hit?

And we have a special thread for all three don't call out the rookie because he is a rookie but how about the other two guys I mean you didn't call out the guys that were standing right next to him but you wanted to call him out I have a problem with that but I'm betting because he plays football they all knew the guy was already going to score it wouldn't have been worth the penalty or what to push the guy right as he crossed the line?

Holy overreaction. A rookie 3rd round pick. I agree the effort stuff is concerning. I’m just not sure I’d jump straight to making him inactive after his first NFL game. I’d definitely address it with him and make it clear that kind of effort isn’t acceptable, but I’d want to see how he responds before taking away his reps. The talent is obviously there, so if it’s a correctable issue, hopefully the coaches can get that fixed quickly. He can't get better on the sideline.

i'd have to see the others, but on the provided play, he was beat. yeah the optics are bad, and i'd like to see effort even if no chance, but reality is once the corner was turned it was a td

53 and 26 get a PASS? All three saw the same thing I have seen guys score with less space between them and the sidelines I seen running backs receivers and quarterbacks just as soon as they're contacted just push the ball in front of them and it's a touchdown I think they all knew it was already a touchdown that's what but I don't like you giving this other 2 a pass it's clear in the picture they all were right next to each other and they all saw the same thing and I'm saying stop calling guys out and saying he was lazy or something without mentioning the other two and without realizing they're all football players and realize they didn't have a tackle they would not have stopped him they all knew it they all play ball you don't so everybody trying to pick on one guy when there were 3 and not knowing the situation like they did and hell are offense needed the ball back why would you want to do another play and take more time when it was going to happen anyway you know that old saying let them score so we can get back out there real quick because our office is going to need to score do I need to play this game with all y'all is this your first time watching football I would say that's the real reason they knew they weren't going to get to them and if they did it would have been like at the 1 inch line and they needed the time to get the ball back anyway they were not going to stop them on the one inch line they haven't stopped the mall day how is that for some logic and common sense instead of all the hate that I see in here..

No he's a rookie standing next to two other players who thought the same thing all three of them said this dude's scoring anyway there's no sense in getting a penalty on the sideline and let me throw common sense in here I know y'all don't want logic Why would you want to line up for another down on save inches to go for the goal and then waste more time...

They needed to get the ball back to their offense the time of possession was ridiculously lopsided that is a strategy i'm sure they all knew it Why line up for inches to go and waste more time when you need your offense back on the field/

All these new dudes….their first real experience together was on the road in prime time in a really tough spot.

They aren’t going to be nearly as bad as what we saw, but like most things, it’s needs time to coagulate.

From minute one I questioned taking the preseason off, but I’m also unaware of how much can get done or not get done during an NFL practice.

Clearly it’ll take some time, and unfortunately the losses count, but that’s how they chose to play it. Normally I’d bash the Joneses here, but most of the league plays it that way.

I mean…..is what we saw Sunday worth the cost of not risking possible injury in August?

Again, some teams have that luxury. Obviously we did not, and I can’t say who made that call. Possibly Jerry or the kid. Maybe Shoddy. Don’t know, but the ‘we got dis’ attitude in the preseason wasn’t warranted.

If they lose this week they’ll need to sweep the rest of the division games just to have a shot. 0-2 isn’t the end of the world, but it’s also 0-2 in the division.

First you say give Barham some grace for playing in his first NFL game but later go on to say make him inactive to send a message. Come on man.

Not excusing the guy's effort but that play is a teachable moment/mistake that will 100% certainly be address in the film room. 2-3 rewinds at least.. lol
