Keep 1: Pickens or JPJ

Its a tough call.

As inept as this offense looks at times, its clearly an advantage to have two #1 guys.

On the other side, the CB room is a bunch of JAGs. Durant, Bland, Revell, all JAGs. I look at Downs & Barham and wonder what we could build if we went all in on that side of the ball.

I can see a scenario where one gets a deal (Porter) and the other gets tagged in 27, but after that, I highly doubt both are Cowboys in 28.

Who would you rather keep?
It's doable to keep both. For example, they may move on from Bland and his huge contract. They also have the ability to restructure or release other players as well. Them giving up a future pick suggest they see a 2 year window left with Dak before they decide to blow it all up.

I don't really understand why it has to be either or.

They have plenty of space to sign both.

It doesnt?

Didnt we have several top-5 offenses?
FO isn't capable of building a good defense so they've wasted those top-5 offenses. Heck they brought in Q and Gary to help stop the run and that hasn't changed either. Although that could be a CP issue. I dont know at this point. It's weird. They can build a stout offensive line off of every draft no problem but their defensive line is always subpar.

I am not convinced they can't sign both. But I am also no convinced Pickens is good for the Cowboys long term.

The Cowboys can free up a lot of space in 2027 if they want to front load Pickens contract - or franchise tag him again. I wouldn't tag him but it is an option.

Looking ahead, I think the Cowboys need to pick up a RT either in the draft or in free agency. Steele has to be gone in 2027. If they draft a guy that will be a net CAP save.

Or, they could develop someone like Cornelius or go with Jones and still cut Steele. Then draft a WR in the first round to replace Pickens.

They have options and I think it depends on how this year plays out.

Give Jerry credit. He is finally going all out to win something this year. Even if it doesn't work out at least he is finally trying something new.

Pickens effort when the ball isn't coming his way is suspect. He's been quiet for 3 games so far. If he wasn't well liked around here people would say, "he robbed Jerry of his money and now wants to jet out of here." On the FT he looks like he's playing not to get hurt. I'm very surprised the dogs here haven't turned on him like they did with Zeke and Diggs.

For now, I'm enjoying having both. But I do see that burning bridge up the road, but I'm not worried about crossing it right now.

JPJ.

Hasn't allowed a TD in 3 years. Shuts off 1 side of the field. A physical, high IQ DB that we haven't had in years. Not a diva(which isn't a knock on GP, but all WR's are divas)

Pickens. I really like JPJ but I don’t think he’s an elite corner. Plus I’d rather build up the front 7 first. Get a good pass rush and all of a sudden you can get by with an average secondary.

How bout we first see if Porter has a legit injury, and if not, let's see how he plays. I think you guys would really realy really miss GP if he wasn't on the team next year...and so would Lamb and Dak
If Porter has a legit back injury and Dallas just traded a 2nd round pick for him....then we can all go find another team to root for, because it's even more hopeless than we thought

Well, it's not like we have a history of drafting injured college players at least, right...? That said, I am sure his bsck hurts a wee bit perhaps

No disrespect to the thread.......It's the keep Schoonmaker-type decisions that need to be addressed first.

Just because they don't want to spend the cash doesn't mean they can't.
No one said they cant. They wont. The owner let a top-3 defensive player in the league go because his feelings were hurt and micah didnt want to take a discount, yet im supposed to believe they will re-sign a WR and a corner to $30m + each?

We would have two receivers making over $35m, a QB thats making $60m, and two corners making over $20m.

No way they do this
