Signed by Cowboys Mike Pettine to join Cowboys staff

[Risen Star]

Long-time NFL coach Mike Pettine is joining the Cowboys defensive staff, reuniting with coordinator Christian Parker. As the Packers defensive coordinator form 2018-20, Pettine gave Parker his first job in the NFL in 2019. When hired, Parker attempted to talk Pettine out of retirement. Now six weeks into the season, Parker has a veteran coach as a sounding board.

I thought Schotty said the solution was in the room.

Apparently it is a huge room.

I thought Schotty said the solution was in the room.

Maybe Pettine was in the room at the time and nobody knew it.

I thought Schotty said the solution was in the room.

Shotty has no idea. It's not his team. I wonder if they even told him.

[Risen Star]

If you're not familiar with Pettine, he's pretty much the Bill Walsh of defense.

[SlammedZero]

This is the correct decision IMO. CP wasn't ready.

[WillieBeamen]

They needed this from the beginning.

It never made sense to me that Zimmer and Eberflus with all of their years of experience, couldnt field a competent defense, but the 34 year old passing game coordinator that never was a DC ever, could

[MonkeymanWoes]

So what is everyone's thought on this? He seems to have an extensive resume and lots of experience. I can't imagine it will hurt, I mean we can't get much worse? Right?

lol it’s been a hell of a year so far.

[NDGAEDE]

Excellent. I don't know if it will help, but at least they're trying.

According to AI results (never know what you're going to get), Pettine's specialty is exactly what we need (pressure)

Mike Pettine's specialty as a defensive coordinator centers on a 3-4 defensive system built around aggressive blitzing, press-man coverage, and foundational roots from the Rex Ryan/Baltimore Ravens defensive coaching tree

[DeaconMoss]

"If the salary is appropriate I can attend zoom calls once a week."
-You are hired!

[Mikexike]

At least CP admits he needs help with this hire.

If you're not familiar with Pettine, he's pretty much the Bill Walsh of defense.

And your next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

Cheap ... currently unemployed ... checks all the boxes!

I sure as hell hope so.

Pettine turned this job down in the spring but felt so bad for Parker watching this mess that he decided to come to the rescue.
