Poll: The Jake Ferguson Incompletion Turned Interception

Should Ferguson have caught this pass?

Why am I not surprised to see the ones who are blaming #4. I would bet they never played football in their entire lives. #4 put the ball right between his eyes and allowed Ferguson to shield his defender from knocking down the ball down.

Do I need to post the video of Justin Jefferson again explaining to you non-football players where WR's want the ball? I also posted a pop-warner video because it goes back to the pop-warner. I won't waste my time because it won't make a difference here. But the truth is out there.

Thanks for posting a video - I’m still looking for the supposed body turn that a couple of the “no” folks mentioned.

I will get the "no" votes started.... You seem to be saying you thought it was a catchable pass, I don't. In real time Ferg is twisting too much to his left because the pass was a bit behind him, not leading like it should have been thrown. Had he caught it it would have been a heck of a catch, though.

The argument I keep reading is Ferg got his hands on the ball - he should have caught it. To that I would say go run the same play yourself and twist your body the opposite direction you are running and try to make the catch. It's not as easy as some would say. This argument keeps coming from Dak lovers who refuse to hold him accountable for anything, so take that for what it's worth.
......but this is the NFL, not the pee-wee game on Saturday mornings that we excuse "Lil Johnny" with a pat on the shoulder pads and about getting it the next time and then taking him for lunch.

The "you never played football guys" are always the ones who never played football. That, or they were backups who never saw the field.

I’d argue the drop isn’t on the QB but the INT partially is. You don’t throw high over the middle for this very reason, everyone knows that. Passes 5-20 yards over the middle have to be below shoulder level so if it’s plinko’d it goes down and not up. I think it sailed on Dak a bit
he is a 10M a year TE.... is expectations that Dak walks it up, and puts it in his belly and gives him a pat on the back?
in that case Fergi would have fumbled it away anyway

Yes...but...

Hard to see what the defense guy is doing there (blurry photo) ...looks like he's a draped on his back. He's a big TE and that CAN be a little awkward if you're expecting a pass in front WITH your momentum.

It's my opinion that Dak does not always have great accuracy in regards to what the receiver is doing. He's had some really good receivers that can catch and run.

No...I don;t "hate" Dak. I felt the same way about Eli.

Two things can both be true at the same time.

He's not a WR.

And you lecture other people about their football acumen.

Bold> I wish people here knew just how often I have asked people sitting with me in stands my whole adult life if the quarterback should run to a receiver and hand the ball to them on a silver platter. It's been hundreds of times.

Lmao!

If you can't see that was an almost perfect pass then it's YOU who has never played the game.

Try again, kid.

I treat the adults here like an adult and treat kids like kids. It's that simple.

so here is the sequence and supposed twist!!
looks like he is leading him, fergi is reaching up and front for the pass

then, his hands are clear in front of him, reaching for the ball. this is a catch if we didn't see anything else (at least the assumption)

then , ball hits his hands. still reaching in front of him...but you can see his hands didn't close in time (didn't make a nest for the ball to land).
and it looks like the ball is coming out of his hands. no twist. just not closing his hands to secure the ball

then the ball is bouncing up and you can see his head starting to turn, twist

then he is twisting, trying to slow down, looking back at the ball...

this was clearly fergi. people argue, "the ball was too fast....maybe his little pinky went ouchy"...
catch the damn ball.
this was his second drop of the game.

he wasn't on his back. see images above. he had space. he plain didn't catch the ball

Yes, but Dak rifled that ball before he turned. A little touch would have made it easier. That applies to both interceptions.

Dak looked way off, like his arm is shot. He's pushing passes like a shotput at times. That deep ball to CeeDee was about as bad as any pass I've seen in the NFL all season.
I've noticed this as well. On some longer throws, he's underthrown them by quite a bit. Is this age? Is it an undisclosed injury? Who knows but something looks way off.

Come on.

Please have a guy like McBride, Kittle, Kraft etc get that ball. Then their fans say, should he have caught it?
Those three are 'better' pass catchers in my opinion, but I would pose the same question if they dropped the ball in that same scenario. I believe all wide receivers and tight ends have the same responsibility to do their main job whenever a catchable pass is thrown to them.

Boiling this play down to simply should he have caught it is an oversimplification.

It was a bad pass but a pass that was still catchable but with a higher degree of difficulty than it should have been.

Dont you find it interesting that this "got both hands on it should have caught it" mantra is something that had reared is head regularly throughout the Prescott era. I wonder why?

He puts the ball where Ferguson could shield off his defender because the defender got a quick jump on it. That was almost a perfect pass by #4. Wr's prefer the ball to be just above the numbers and in front of them, the ball was there. The ones who hate #4 will never give him credit for anything and blame him for everything. If he wins the SB with us, they will say "what took him so long?" or they will just disappear.
