Am I the only one that actually read what Gosselin said?

RICK GOSSELIN: 1) I think it was widely accepted in Dallas that Jones made a good choice in Garrett. 2) But I'm not sure that it was universally regarded across the NFL as a great hire. Garrett was half to blame for that 6-10 mess of a season. He ran the offense, which turned the ballover 30 times. 3) But no one knows how Garrett will be as a head coach. No one knew about John Harbaugh, a relative unknown hired by the Ravens. He turned into a gem -- taking Baltimore to the playoffs each of his first three seasons. No one knew about Josh McDaniels. He didn't last two season with the Broncos. I've long thought Garrett had a chance to become a great coach. But he's still at the front end of the learning curve. 4) Time will tell.
1) He credits the hire as a good one.
2) He says lets wait and see before we call him a "great" hire.
3) Some unknowns turn out great - Harbaugh. Others turn out to be failures - McDaniels
4) Lets wait and see how he does.

What's that you say? Garrett already proved his greatness with is 5-3 finish? You may recall that Josh McDaniels began his career in Denver like a house-afire (6-0 including OT win vs Pats) only to watch that house burn to the ground from there.

I'm excited to have Garrett leading the team. But I'm not outraged that Gosselin refuses to call him great just yet.

I was wondering if I misread what he said, because you're take is also how I took it.

This is how I read it:

1)The Dallas people think they made a good decision with the Garrett hiring.
2)But that's not necessarily how the rest of the league looks at it.
3)At this point nobody knows what Garrett's legacy will be.
4)Only time will tell.

Just pretty basic and straight forward. Not good or bad.

Nothing like the mob mentality here when the media says something the masses dont like, beyond ridiculous. Goose just reporting what his contacts are saying so he is a tool. Of course people who are actually closer to the situation and more in the know couldnt possibly be right.

Just find it interesting the week after the eagles are eliminated we get a Goose article about how not everyone accross the NFL thinks the Garrett hire was a good one.

RICK GOSSELIN says absolutely nothing in the comments posted above.

He is "not sure" that the Garrett hire was "universally" viewed across the NFL as a great hire. - Wow... an obvious statement that any person on the planet could have made and been accurate in doing so.

And he also expects the new staff to bear Garrett's stamp, wholesale changes, etc. - Once again, wow.

If that is considered earth shattering news from a guy in the know, then we are all inside experts here - stating the obvious is all that appears to be required.

Actually, it wasn't an article. His comments were part of his DMN weekly chat he does that was linked in the OP.

Also, don't be fooled by the headlines. DMN's headline writers/editors traditionally write something that's often far off the mark of what the writer intended.

If you mean by reading that you actually comprehended what Goose was writing then yes, yes you are.

A lot of idgits like to pile on Gosselin but I've always found it wise to keep your trap shut before deciding to go up against somebody who has probably forgotten more about professional football then you'll ever hope to learn.

You're only going to look stupid...

Hey goose, stick to the draft.

I said in another forum the same thing. Guy is absolutely horrendous on anything other than the NFL draft. Its easy to see why he works for DMN.

Mine too.

This thread is another example of what I've been talking about.

Garrett earned the job but there are still major question marks.

Well the rest of the NFL can suck a fat one. Can't wait till Garrett wins a superbowl in Dallas and shuts all his haters up.

Lol. How ironic, down to the minute.

Seriously though, read what the man said.

I'm still amazed at the frequency of the attacks on a media opinion when it doesn't follow the talking points of the Cowboy Fanifesto. What Gosselin said was entirely accurate - far too many people are absolving Garrett's role in 1-7. Those same folks are in turn deifying him for going 5-3. The truth in Garrett's 2010 season is a merging of those two.

I could care less what the rest of the NFL thinks of Garrett being the HC of the Dallas Cowboys. Knowledgeable Cowboys' fans know what Garrett brings to the table. This is a very good hire with the potential of being a great hire.

Right as most the time, or really all the time, I can care less what Goose has to say. He rarely ever will say anything good about Dallas without some touch of negative comments.

He is always straight up with that though, and have to respect that. And sometimes right, we just don't want to hear the criticism at times.

He is great on the drafts though.

But this comment is one of those you just kind of scratch your head, thinkig, what does the NFL thinking have to do with it, I'm sure other teams don't care. They aren't shaking in their boots over it, but they certainly aren't laughing either.

He is seen as a good enough hire that he was in pretty high demand for other teams.

Yeah 3 years ago... He's NOT a good hire. He tanked the O to get Wade fired now you're all going to find out just how much he doesn't know. He's not ready for this job and it will show. Give it 2 years before the wheels come off the wagon.

I agree 100 percent. NO ONE wants to talk about the 1-7 where the O ran the same vanilla plays he's ran for the last 2 years. Once Wade got fired new plays came out and the old vanilla plays decreased 10 fold.

This was a setup job from start to finish. I do NOT know why Wade would accept a job to work for Al Davis Jr.

Welcome to your new puppet Jason GAYrett

Don't tell anyone around here that. Objectivity is thrown out the window, anyone that says anything remotely negative about the Red Messiah gets blasted and discredited immediately.

Goose didn't say anything out of line, and guys are calling him a bum. Goose is who he is, his top 100 is as good at it gets, and you have to know what to filter from certain media outlets.

The Garrett super fan club is hilarious though, I think it's more hope than actual belief - gotta cling on to something after 16 years of coming up short of our the standards and goals set by this franchise.

And if it doesn't work the excuses will be the best part.:D
