If Free remains at guard, the Cowboys may be finished at OLine for a while

we need another right tackle. I just do not see parnell being a long term starter in the nfl.

I'd say we need a RG, RT and we'll probably need a LG in the near future.

And then you have the issue of depth.

I would still look to draft a guard or tackle within the first 3 rounds next year even if this unit performs well as is.

You bet.

I agree with my bud Risen Star that both offensive and defensive lines need a constant influx of new talent to either claim starting spots or push starters.

Nonsense. If Fred gets hurt, Costa steps in. If one of the guards gets hurt, Mack steps in. If a tackle gets hurt, Free steps in. Our "depth" consists of former starters who have played in our system for at least one season...that's as solid as it gets.

Nonsense?
Costa? If costa was so good why did we replace him? He's not a good enough depth player.

Mack sucks too. What are you watching? He just lost his job to DOUG FREE at Guard.

Solid as it gets? Hahaha

If we had a new RG and RT, I'd be happy with the current depth (Free/Berny/Parnell). But two of the are starters and I think the right side is to be a concern throughout the season. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Exactly my point. This OLine performed well WITHOUT it's starting left guard.

2.5 yards per carry at halftime (when both teams starter played)

Is performing well? This is what you think is reason enough to consider this unit set?

What are you watching?

To be fair, you have no idea how this line is going to perform when it begins to jell. Or maybe you're some sort of psychic? Sylvia Browne, is that you? From what I saw, I see a lot of potential. No idea if it will actually be fulfilled, but to declare absolutes is absurd.

glass half empty folks are usually the vocal ones. Ignoring the fact the Boys spent their last two 1st round picks on the OL and brought in many many players to fill gaps, they will sit back and say enough hasn't been done. And if we fielded the best OL in the league, they'd just find another unit on the team to gripe about.

Aw, so you're the type of fan who thinks teams are filled with all-pro level backups? Duly noted.

and you claim to be the expert now?

best O line in the league. Wow. any excuse eh?

This team rushes for 2.5 yards per carry vs the bengals in our dress rehearsal game and we are all set!

The pass blocking this preseason was worlds better than what we say last preseason.

The run blocking during the first half of the Cincy game wasn't good. Geno and the Cincy MLB had their way with our rookie center and Bern.

I would expect the blocking to appear better with Leary in at LG and the Cowboy offensive line not facing one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL.

As far a depth... I look around at other rosters and after the starting 5, I'm not seeing world of talented/proven players backing up starters.

Yes. Pass blocking is significantly better. Agreed.

Run blocking is better but not good enough yet.

Hence, our OLine is not set

Who knew that all we had to do to go from the worst OL performance in the team's history to set for years was draft a center?

Maybe you have to be player sexual to understand this.

I do think the OL will be better and I'd like to think we'll go into next offseason with three players there we can build on.

I don't think the line is set either.

Even if Free plays at a very high level, his contract is for only 1 more season.

Parnell is going to need to show more and depth is going to be needed.

We need at a minimum a first round guard. Free at RT would be fine, but Parnell knee won't hold up for the season. Frederick could help out the weakest guard. Right now, the only good OL we have are Smith and Frederick, everything else, patchwork.

We're really going to be left handed on offense this year.

Parnell's knee?

I don't think they'll spend another 1st rounder on an offensive lineman come next May.

I think the defensive line is going to get some attention... It needs it more than the offensive line at this point.

"If" was the key word in that sentence you overlooked.

Would love to read a post about the quality and depth of our LB, TE, WR, RB, CB, QB etc. units. Maybe I'll post one when I get a chance. However, if we spent every year's early round picks or signed every big name FA for our OL, it would come at the expense of other more stout units. In the salary cap era, you can't have stars at every position, and not discounting the importance of the trenches, but I respect the efforts of our FO to seek and bring in talent for the OL. And I appreciate the abundance of talent we have on this team.
