News: DeMarcus Ware, Dallas Cowboys headed for a split?

Demarcus Ware is not worth $13 million a year. His ability to stay healthy has declined drastically over the last two years and his play has been affected as a result.

It wouldn't matter if our salary cap situation was great and we had a ton of money to spend, paying a player that much money that can't stay healthy consistently and has seen his play tail off dramatically at his age is not the thing to do.

I know that has been normal practice in Dallas, thus the last 18 years of losing.

It's really as simple as that.

some are in love with Ware and want him here to finish his career. Not realizing that in the cap era this kills the team. I fully agree that he needs to go. Not worth vet minimum.

I want him to stay but at the end of the day it's about the team and he isn't worth that much anymore. If he is all about money let him walk. He won't get anywhere close to what he expects. 32 year old DES don't get paid like 28 year olds.

I always wanted the old vets to play out in Dallas. Todays cap regulated NFL makes things different. If you want the team to compete you can no longer root for a player that makes more than his input. Wish teams would get rewarded for solid draft picks and have a different measuring stick to retain it's own. Until then it is time to say goodbye.

Agreed the NFL needs a Bird rule like the NBA.

So Dallas should have just let him walk in 2011 instead of signing him to a contract? If you are not willing to pay top dollar to a pro bowl player then your not going to keep many pro bowl players around now or in the future.

I did not say that anywhere in my post. But if he refuses a pay cut, I drop him now. The injury bug has brought him down, and playing in a 4-3 isn't helping matters.

I don't think the 4-3 has anything to do with it. Dallas gave him a big contract no one had an issue with it but like most contract the backend see the price sky rocket and most fans will make the claim well he will never see that money. Cowboys are at that juncture with Ware and yes they are unwilling to payout the backend of the contract so either both sides come to an agreement or Ware walks. I don't see either side at fault.

On June 21, 2012, John Abraham(age 33) signed a 3 year $16.72 million contract to remain in Atlanta.[4]

At the end of the day I think Ware will agree to a pay cut. This is a long road. We are in for a lot of leaks, rumors, posturing and stand offs. The Cowboys have the leverage. Ware will not get a big pay day somewhere else. And if I'm wrong about that, then go get your money Ware.

What's being lost in all of this is the structure of Ware's contract to begin with. His salary (as stated in the original article) almost doubles this year. That double of salary is the built in "restructure or cut" point. That's where we stand. No player in the league (that's not a QB) is making 13 million for the season. Demarcus Ware won't be either. He'll take a pay cut one way or the other. The only question left to answer is which team will it be with?

Honestly I would rather let him walk sign Byrd at Safety and start our Defensive line off with 2 or 3 Rookies hungry to prove themselves. I like having youth on the Lines both Offensively and Defensively. I really like guys below 30 as my starters. Too me older vets many times pace themselves and don't play with recklass abandon like I would want.

That says it. Fans wanna blame Jerry and Stephen. Even I rag on those guys. Jones has a big mouth and seems to deserve some criticism. But he has done some nice things too. The mismanagement is not the reason to release DeMarcus. It is the cap. The team needs to be thrifty with all signings and in the case of a player like DW where he has regressed and shows injuries Dallas worked a contract that has a decent out. Take the out. Dead money and cap hits don't match the great savings and cap savings.

I can agree with this approach. I mean, it's been needed for a long time but the thing that has always concerned me, with Ware, is that it's never been an issue with his legs or his core. His game is really about speed and quickness and none of the injuries, so far as I can recall, effect this part of his game. It would be nice to understand the long term prognosis of his current injuries. If they were such that they would suggest a long term problem that would never heal, I would be much more supportive of just moving away from Ware.

I can see both POVs, but I think it's a little of both. Ware's decline has given the Cowboys the excuse they needed to try to fix a ship wreck of a salary cap.I think thesolution is somewhere in the middle, but Ware maybe upset because he feels like the Cowboys are using him as a sacrificial lamb so hence the refusal to take a paycut.

Help me here because I honestly don't know.....

Has Ware actually publicly stated that he is not willing to take a pay cut? I honestly don't know the answer to this. I know it has been reported as such but I have no idea who actually said those words or if they were even actually said or if this is just a report designed to stir up reader response.

Yeah, at this point it's just sources. And conjecture on my part.

This is Dallas s chance to turn about the ship. Let him walk. Declining seasons older player and injuries to boot. No way.

yes, yes, YES. But with Al Davis Jr. in charge....he'll overpay him. It's what he does: every time.

LOL Parcells won ten games with the worst roster in the league and by the time he left this team was ready for a 13 -3 season they had with Wade. If jerry never forced TO on Bill to show him who is boss we may have actually won something. Payton would never have even been here is not for Parcells.

Sure..

So your version of Cowboy Revisionist history says what?

Jerrah was brilliant in hiring Parcells..

or an idiot for running him off like he did with Jimmy..?

Which is it..?

Both?

I didn't think he was the answer but Romo, Ware, and Witten were brought in during his tenure.
He was probably the best we've had since Jimmy.

Understood.

But bottom line was that Parcells was brought here to get the team to a SB.

There was no other reason.

And he failed miserably.

And he was making upwards of 8 mil/yr.

And he drafted Bobby Carpenter, Marcus Spears and wasted a bunch of draft picks on OL that never played a down for us.

So my impression of him was he was using the Cowboys to further his HofF bid..

he ended up with what he wanted..

..but we didn't get anything back in the deal if you ask me.

NO playoff wins and two playoff dates..

not much IMO.

If the Cowboys were anywhere close to being a Superbowl team then I would say keep him.

With how things stand we have to let him go. I love the player and he is one of my all time favorite DL but he is a luxury for us at this point.

I hope he goes to New England or some team like that and gets himself a ring because he deserves it.

I don't believe this is true. I think Suh is making 12.5 plus and additional 9+ Mil in Misc Signing Bonus. I believe Peppers is making 13.9 Base plus 4+ in Misc. Signing Bonus. I believe Mike Wallace was scheduled to make 15+ but I'm not sure if he's been renegotiated or not. There are some guys.
