Thoughts on the safety position Church vs Wilcox

Who do you like more. If you could only keep one, which would it be. Obviously before last season it would have been Church 10 times out of 10 but I thought Wilcox did a great job. He was usual good at being the last guy to count on to make a stop on a big run, his coverage was pretty decent even though I don't agree with the safties always playing so far off all the time. Church is solid but his range in coverage is suspect but he does make up for that with his vision and instincts. I don't know, to me it's almost a toss up but I really just wanted to get everyone else opinion.

The safety position on this team is average at best, and out of the two starters, Wilcox has a little upside but, Church is a backup at best on most teams,....

10 out of 10? I would never associate perfect score with Church. He in theory is a above average tackler, but last year I honestly think he dropped off significantly. He cant cover a TE period, but is good with rb out of backfield (which sounds a whole lot like a lb). Wilcox will be better at SS than Church is, and we should plan accordingly with a FS in the draft at some point.

Church has been solid for us in a spot we just could not fill for years, Wilcox is coming along, he still needs some work on the angles he takes but he has been decent. This should be a good year for them both working together for a 3rd year in camp together and with Marinelli.

Church is a better tackler and better in coverage. But wilcox is getting better and i love his toughness. Not afraid to get in a shoving match. lol. You need that on defense. But both are ss types. We need a true fs.

My answer now (and before last season) is Wilcox, so make that 9 out of 10 with me being the odd one out. I've always liked Church and think he is a valuable player but I would have rolled my dice on Wilcox' upside before this season began.

I like Wilcox.. I think we see him take another step this year.

People forget he played 1 year at safety in college and because he wasn't an all star as a rookie they wanted to write him off.

Last year he turned a corner and showed some upside at times.

Year 3 I expect him to start seeing things quicker and become a bit of a impact player for us.

Our safeties are as goo as or better than a lot of teams. Great safety play is probably the hardest thing to find in the league. At least we don't have one who is routinely exposed when on the field(Heath, Roy Williams in his later years).

Wilcox is my pet cat and has better upside but I trust Church more if tomorrow was the Super Bowl. If Wilcox learns angles better he has potential to be good. Like Hardy and Mcclain, he is a mean you know what

Exactly, we don't have a Darren Woodson back there but our safety play right now is probably better then we have seen since Roy Williams rookie year.

The back end stands to improve by leaps and bounds if Tyrone Crawford, Mincey, and Hardy are disruptive forces in the backfield. Fact!

Typically I trust Church to defend better right now, but I think we've seen his ceiling. Wilcox is better athletically and will make more plays, but he takes himself out a few too many times.

I would need to know WIlcox and how he approaches film, improvement, etc. to be able to answer this, because it all rests on whether he will continue to improve mentally.

I like both players but neither should consider themselves a lock to play their position for years to come. Wilcox have room for improvement but Church is limited; Dallas should look to upgrade at both positions when the opportunity presents itself.

Between the two of them we have strong safety covered, now we need to find a true ball hawk free safety.

Wilcox is better then most people think. Few people really understand the Safety position. I started a thread awhile back about a specific play that I knew fans would think was Wilcox fault that clearly wasn't if you knew the expectations of his position and the other positions. People continued to swear it was his fault despite a clear breakdown of the video footage.

Church would be a great backup for any team.

Ya really he's one of the most willing tacklers on the team, 100 last year. But he's garbage cuz he's not great in coverage lol please. If he was a FA on a different team ppl here would be begging to sign him.

I think some guys like @Bluestang and @FuzzyLumpkins disagreed with your assessment in that thread.

We certainly have the best safeties in our division. But choosing between the two I also choose JJ so much potential, kids a great athlete who can lay the wood too.
