Hey guys. I am 37 years old, 5'10" and 252 LBS. I am diabetic and my liver is not in good condition. Need to lose weight fast. Don't really know how to cook so I rely on my wife but I will be 3 months without her so to avoid any issues I decided to sign up to Nutrisystem.

Anybody used this? Any complaints?

My alternative is Jenny Craig but that system looks more expensive and heard they try to call you multiple times to get you back if you decide to leave.

Any input is appreciated.

You're not going to like hearing this, but Jenny Craig and Nutrisystem are a waste of time and money. If you're serious about eating and living healthy save the money and buy a book called "Younger Next Year". You can get it on Amazon for about $25. It will tell you all you need to know and do it in an easy to follow manner.

Hi Amber

Thanks for your comment. I have to do one of the two for 3 months as I don't really know how to cook and my wife will not be here to take care of me in that sense. I lost 29 LBS already and I would like to keep the momentum going while my wife is away. That's why I have to pick one and wanted to hear if anybody tried one of those. I will check the book now and see what it is about.

I hate diets with a passion. The best bet is always to change your eating habits. Losing weight has to be a lifestyle change. The best thing you do to get started is cutting out foods with artificial ingredients, even ( especially) so called diet foods. Those pre packaged foods are loaded with artificial ingredients you body doesnt know what to do with and gets stored as fat.

I eat mostly natural foods ( meats, veggies, fruits) throw in fiber and protein rich cereal, greek yogurt with a good granola, 1% cottage cheese ( if you ever decide to get into weights, this js a wonder food) and eggs. Lots and lots of protein Drink LOTS of water, do light cardio and hit the sauna for 10 minutes a day. The sauna works wonders when your out of shape.

A colon flush helps too

I haven't personally used Nutrisystem, but I do have close friends that have used it. They both lost over 20 lbs and stopped once they got down to a weight that they consider to be ideal for them. They have maintained the weight loss for over two years.

I followed the Abs Diet eating and exercise routine back in 2005-2006 and lost 40-50 pounds (was around 200-210). Wasn't really a diet in the sense of what most people think of with that word, just all about eating whole grains, real foods, no hfcs, etc. Stuff like that. I'm up again but I also quit following it... just excuses why so I won't get into it.

I did Nutrisystem 7 years ago. Weekends off plan.

I lost 40 pounds. It was easy, but expensive. No exercise either

With today's technology and google/youtube....you can learn to cook easily. They even have videos of how to boil water :)

It would be a lot cheaper and healthier to give it a shot IMO. Cooking is easy, just don't let it get in your head that it is difficult.

Just cook some chicken until it turns white and throw some pre bought seasoning on it. Heat up a vegetable and boil some rice or stick some potatoes in the oven. You got carbs/protein/veggies in one meal. It's not hard to cook. You can figure it out on youtube.

Check out medifast, a little pricey but makes you lose the weight the right way, you can lose 2 lbs a week just following their diet plan and more if you exercise.

I tried Nutrisystem and had a bit of a hard time finding things I actually liked eating. There were a handful of items that I'd keep a supply of, but overall, I didn't really care for it.

However, convenience wise? You'd be hard pressed to find something more convenient and it absolutely works if you stick to it.

Big waste of money.

Look up Low Carb high fat diets.. Use it.. Profit..

"ooooh but fat is bad". No... Research low carb high fat diets on google and youtube.

Thanks guys. I did some more research and I decided not to go with Nutrisystem.

My reasons are

1) Food tastes bad and not easy to eat them long term.

2) Preservatives are bad for my liver.

3) Pretty pricey.

4) Maybe this is a good opportunity for me to learn how to cook healthy stuff.

Thanks again for your help.

Check out emeals. They give you a shopping list from your local grocery store that you pick, based on your dietary needs. Some recipes aren't that great, but overall, it's a good program. It costs about $6 a month.

I'm going to give an extra vote to the low carb diet. (ketogenic) Especially since you are diabetic.

Yep. Easy as pie. Healthy too.

Eat clean to get lean.

I use http://eatthismuch.com

You plug in your calories, what type of diet you want, the macronutrient levels you want to hit, how many meals a day you want to eat, etc. You can also plug in foods you never want to eat and set your budget per meal. Then, it generates your grocery list for the week and plans out every meal. You can even set how complicated you want the recipes to be. I have mine set to simple and two meals a day since that's what works for me. I'm currently using it on a keto diet.

I love it and don't know what I'd do without it.
