Chuck Berry passed away

Many times it comes off as hyperbole when someone says "This person was one of the most influential ever", but in this case it's not an exaggeration.

He was one of the most influential... Ever.

Chuck Berry dies at age 90

Chuck Berry, rock 'n' roll's founding guitar hero and storyteller who defined the music's joy and rebellion in such classics as "Johnny B. Goode," ''Sweet Little Sixteen" and "Roll Over Beethoven," died Saturday at his home in an unincorporated area west of St. Louis. He was 90.

Emergency responders summoned to Berry's residence by his caretaker about 12:40 p.m. found him unresponsive, police in Missouri's St. Charles County said in a statement. Attempts to revive Berry failed, and he was pronounced shortly before 1:30 p.m., police said.

A police spokeswoman, Val Joyner, told The Associated Press she had no additional details about the death of Berry, calling him "really a legend."

Berry's core repertoire was some three dozen songs, his influence incalculable, from the Beatles and the Rolling Stones to virtually any group from garage band to arena act that called itself rock 'n roll. While Elvis Presley gave rock its libidinous, hip-shaking image, Berry was the auteur, setting the template for a new sound and way of life. Well before the rise of Bob Dylan, Berry wedded social commentary to the beat and rush of popular music.

Almost every significant artist of note drew from Berry. Lennon, Clapton, Richards, Hendrix and on and on.

Prob no Chuck Berry, no Jimi Hendrix. As John Lennon once said, if Rock n Roll had to be called another name (or to that effect), it would be Chuck Berry. The guy was a genius.

So who is left from that era (rock n roll pioneers)? Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis. etc.

Thanx you Chuck for giving our lives a beautiful sound. Now go and play for the angels.

You know I was trying to think of the headliners from that era that are left... Jerry Lee, Little Richard, Fats Domino and Connie Francis.

Boy the ones that are gone...

Elvis
Ricky Nelson
Tony Williams (lead singer of the Platters)
Eddie Cochrane
Buddy Holly
Ben E King

Now Chuck.

Dion, from Dion & the Belmonts is still here. He headlined the Winter Dance Party 1959, with Buddy Holly, Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens, etc.

You're an old man, dude!

Add BB King, Albert King, Ben Benjamin, Curtis Mayfield and many others. He influenced the guitarists, bass players, drummers, writers, and particularly the blues' players along with classic rock and roll for generations. One of the founders along with Waters and Johnson. AFAIK he invented the boogie beat.

Yes, that's part of it... But it's also been one of my favorite era's since watching "Sha-na-na" back in the late 70's.

Absolutely was. From the Beatles and The Beach Boys, to glam rock to modern-day tunes. RIP Chuck Berry

I'll never forget him in a movie{name escapes me but it was a documentary} he was trying to teach Keith Richards how to do something along the lines of a unison bend, took Keith a while to get it down. Also believe Chuck used to get paid after a show, take the money and put it his guitar case then drive to the next town. RIP.

Chuck Berry was the real King as far as I'm concerned. He's had a HUGE influence on any guitar player that ever mattered. RIP. :(
