BTB: Who will the Cowboys release to make room for David Irving?

If you’re worried about the state of the Dallas Cowboys pass rush or defense as a whole, you can breathe just a bit easier knowing reinforcements are on the way. David Irving has officially returned from his suspension.

Irving missed the first quarter of the season, but fellow pass rusher DeMarcus Lawrence carried things nicely along that position group in his absence. The idea of the two of them rushing together, especially considering what Lawrence has done this season, is a good one for Cowboys fans.

The only caveat to having Irving return is that the Cowboys must release a player from their 53-man roster in order to make room for him. Who could that be? Here are five potential options

My guess is Bene Benwikere.

It's news if it's not Bene Benwikere. Before that, it's not even worth talking about.

They did the same thing when Moore was coming back, when everybody knew it was going to be Jayrone Elliott.

Releasing McFadden before the Zeke ordeal is decided would be incredibly stupid. He should be active over Morris anyway. Releasing Tapper would also be extremely stupid. He can rush the QB. I also wouldn't want to release Price simply due to numbers at the tackle spot. I realize we've got some guys that can play inside as well as outside, but I still wouldn't let Price go at this point. If we're healthy at the DB spot, let Benwikere go.

Benewikere most likely, but I would not be butt hurt if Heath was released...matter of fact, may be butt hurt if Heath is kept....

I'd consider Moore but don't hold your breath.

It'll be Ben who will go to the PS if he clears. That takes care of the draft pick, the roster spot, and leaves him on the squad to be promoted back to the 53.

We'll see.

It'll be Benwikere, unless Carrol can't go. Then probably Moore for a week. Though I'd feel a lot better about rolling with the rookie backup QB five or more games into the season than I did to start the year. At this point, he's got the rhythm of the game week down pretty much and has had 5 weeks of putting in a game plan and dissecting it after. The team won't do it long-term, but having Rush be the sole backup to Dak isn't the worst idea in the world at this point if you needed the roster spot.

I just don't want to give up that draft pick for Benwikere.

He isn't going to be around for weeks and hasn't been active anyway. Can be designated to return from IR as well.
