Jaylon has nerve damage to his leg. He is not 100% and might never be. Was not a risk worth taking.
It is easy to say in hindsight.
His Doctor is on the Cowboys staff. It was a calculated gamble.
The main issue is that the Cowboys have taken too many gambles.
Other decisions that seem bad in hindsight but really were not bad at the time of the decision:
Claiborne - Regarded as the best defensive player in the draft and a generational talent.
Gregory - Top 5 talent in the 2nd round. It was a big risk but not necessarily a bad risk/reward.
Decisions that were bad at the time of the decision:
Trading two 1sts for Joey Galloway.
Trading for Roy Williams.
Drafting Bobby Carpenter mid-first because Parcells knew his Dad.
Drafting Jacob Rogers in the 2nd because Parcells knew his Dad.
Drafting Shante Carver in the 1st. The player himself said he thought he would go in the 5th round or later based on feedback from other teams.
Drafting Dwayne Goodrich because Larry Lacewell had ties to his college.
Drafting Quincy in the 2nd because someone outside the Cowboys organization told Jerry it was a good idea.
There are even decisions that turned out great that were dumb:
Not drafting Witten in the 2nd.
Drafting Demarco Murray because Barry Switzer told Jerry to do it. Someone outside the organization should not be making that decision.
Drafting Frederick. The scouts wanted the DT and Jerry had to over-rule them when Marinelli said he was not worth it.
