We are agreed Dez is just an average WR

It's unfortunate that his salary outweighs his production these days but I'll blame the front office for that, not Dez, who just isn't what he once was. Separation has always come hard for him, though. I'd say that he was once considerably better than average but now, pretty average and unfortunately, over-generously compensated. It's high time to draft an extremely talented and consistent WR, no doubt there.

There's a place for Dez if we use him correctly.
That said the scale goes both ways, when players are out producing their contract they immediately demand a higher salary.
The time has come for Dez to take a large pay cut if he wants to remain on the team next year. he's not even close with matching output to his pay. Bottom line is we need speed outside and that has to be addressed in the offseason.

I hate when he gives defenses tells by pretending to run block a play in the same manner he would in shorts on the first day of training camp.
Having this conversation speaks to the greatness of Romo; see L Robinson, miles Austin, P crayton, all average WRs ending up with above average contracts

Elite talent, poor route running. But he’s done a lot in the nfl, so it worked. Could have been an all time great with his psychical ability/desire, with some true refining of the game on a technical level. It’s time to move on though.
I think you nailed it. He just doesn't study up

I don't know how many times I'm going to have to say this, chart Dez's production with the Cowboys qbs. It was high with Romo, an elite passer, and it's been low with everyone else. It's just that simple. Antonio Brown is the most productive wr in the game by far but I found this "AB has played in five games over the past two seasons without Big Ben as his QB. In those games he scored zero touchdowns. He averaged 68.2 yards a game and 4.8 catches". Those stats look quite familiar, Dez is not as good as AB but AB is not as good as AB when Big Ben is out. Dak may become an elite passer but as of now he's just not.

No actually, more teams cut players with remaining years on their contracts than player demanding more money. If Dez went to the Saints next year and got to play with Brees, this board would be on fire.

Say that as many times as you like but in my estimation, Dez was younger and healthier with Romo for most of his time with him. He's a shell of the WR that he once was, due in large part to so many injuries. While it's true that Romo was more effective with Dez than Dak is right now, let's also consider that Dak doesn't yet play with the touch that Romo did, although he may or may not improve in that respect at some point in the future. Dez is likely nearing the end of his career anyway, so drafting another WR with the ability to get separation would be advisable for Dak to work with. I can't help but doubt that Dak is going anywhere, at least for the time being and most likely much longer.

I’m not against keeping him around, but I can see where they take his and wittens cap and use them in a different direction. Dez can still be effective if the system is ready to throw his way on low percentage plays, and the qb is willing to throw into coverage. Romo was a great qb for dez. It could have been so much more.
Who are you signing?
Take a look at the free agent pool this year and let’s talk about who is replacing Dez..
Teams are not letting top WRs walk away.
Maybe the draft? That’s not a gamble or anything right?

With all the holes we have on this team I can’t believe we have so many fans who think creating another hole is the best way forward..hey let’s cut Dez and use our 1st round pick trying to replace him...it’s not like we don’t have weaknesses on defense or anything..

I can say that because it's true, you're giving "your estimation while I'm stating facts. Dak may get there one day and it's true that Dez wont be here when he does but i just don't like the narrative that Dez Bryant is trash when it's just not true. Here we are with numerous threads started about Dez's production after a game where the qb's stats are 11-22 for 104 yards and 2 tds of those stats Dez had 5 for 61 yards and 1 td. How's a guy going to have probowl numbers with that type of qbing?

Whoa there, Cowboy, nobody said Dez is trash -- did I say that or something different? The so-called facts that you've offered were "facts" that occurred in the past -- a past that saw Dez do more than anything he's doing at present. It's a well-known fact that he isn't able to manage getting sufficient separation to be consistently effective now and was gradually regressing with Romo as well. I wouldn't say he's trash at all but surely not an elite WR who manages catching a high percentage of his targets to the tune of over 51%. Capable CBs routinely shadow him these days. I can deal with it, though, even though you apparently can't. No, Dez isn't trash, although he has become somewhat average or marginally better at best.

Alshon just got 52 over 4.
That’s very comparable to what Dez is making.

He has 33 TDs, 5200 yards and played 16 games in a season 2/6 seasons. Why is he worth it?

He's just a bad #1, been saying it for a few years, believe it even more today. We need a replacement to take the next level.

Why won't you discuss the 104? Because it doesn't fit your narrative.

You said
"It's a well-known fact that he isn't able to manage getting sufficient separation to be consistently effective now"

FACTS: Here's some of the best in the leagues stats
Yards of separation/target in 2017:

Dez Bryant: 2.4

A.J. Green: 2.4

Emmanuel Sanders: 2.4

Julio Jones: 2.3

Mike Evans: 2.2

DeAndre Hopkins: 2.1

You said "was gradually regressing with Romo as well".

FACT-In 2014 (last year with a competent passer) 88 for 1320 and 16tds. That was a career year for him.

You said "not an elite WR who manages catching a high percentage of his targets to the tune of over 51%".

FACT-. Dez Has 102 targets this season, with 53 catches, per PFF 60 of those targets were uncatchable. Just because he's targeted doesn't mean that the passes are on target, but I will say that he's had too many drops this year.

You said "Capable CBs routinely shadow him these days".

OPINION- Maybe that has as much to do with Dak as it does Dez.

I don't think you know what the word "average" means.

I've reached the conclusion that I can not really make an assessment of any of our key players under this coaching staff.

I have no idea if Bryant is cooked. I suspect he's not and if you put him in a better offense, he'd have much better numbers.
