I just keep picturing this board, if that was the Cowboys rather than the Saints on the last play.

We have. Just last year in fact. That play was no different than the Rogers play last year at our place. Amazing. I love football.

It was a little different. The Saints had a lead. We were just hoping for OT. Both were excruciating for fans.

I had to come here to post this, it's one of the best tweets I've ever seen. Might even melt the cold black hearts of the most jaded of us posters on this forum: (volume ON)

That wasn't a Hail Mary (neither was Pearson's), it was a corner route designed to get him OOB and turned into a fluke TD. Also it was a walk off, whereas Pearson's catch occurred with about 30 seconds left.

Somewhat ironically, the play which coined the phrase "Hail Mary" wasn't a Hail Mary at all. It was a go route against cover 2 man with half a minute left.

The reason it was coined Hail Mary was because of Staubach's, a devout Catholic, comments after the game.

"I just said a Hail Mary and threw it as far as I could."

What we call a Hail Mary these days, throwing it up to a bunch of guys in the end zone, wasn't even done then because a pass couldn't legally deflect off one offensive player to another under the rules at the time.

That's silly if that was his thinking. He didn't have to do anything but stand there and see if Diggs caught it. If he did, wrap him up.

A dumb play and a weak attempt at a tackle cost his team their season.

He was already driving on the ball and couldnt stop, he'd have fallen trying to put the brakes on. He would have been fine had Diggs not had to contort his body to the right and lept for the ball.

Had he gone high he would have driven trough the receiver before the ball got there.

With all due respect, that's a ridiculous rationalization. Nothing he did on that play would be taught by any credible coach. He shouldn't have been "committed" to anything but keeping the receiver in front of him at that point, and tackling him in bounds.

Honestly, i felt like this many times as a sports fan.....my teams find a way to put my heart through a meat grinder and find the most gut wrenching ways to lose.

A coach would have told him to time his break better. Once he made that mistake, he did the one thing he could that didn't involve guaranteeing Minnesota a makable FG. It would have world to if not for unfortunate ball placement.
