In some ways it sounds how Rod would not take over for Monte at first due to his respect until they made him an assistant coach or something. But instead Matt, said, meh, time to move on full time.

Guess Rod wasn't thinking of retiring.

Further, if they wanted a new DC and wanted to give it to Eberflus, it shows just how ******* dysfunctional the Jones are at this point when it comes to the coaching staff.

So is this saying we are truly looking to reduce Martinelli's role and look for a new DC? Was the offer made only as an attempt to retain Flus?

Probably knew it was a lost cause.

Of course, it's a negative on the Cowboys if they offer him the job and a negative if they don't. Some posters are here to create a complaint no matter what the Cowboys do.

It's like with O-Line coach ... fans trashed the Cowboys for going with an inexperienced Marc Colombo as O-Line coach (even though they actually didn't - they just decided to get a head start on the complaining), and then when they actually hired a very experienced head coach the fans trash the Cowboys for that.

Can't blame Matt for declining.

So we wanted to keep him at almost any cost necessary but not get rid of Rod to make it work.

This doesn't make sense. If Eberflus didn't want to step on Marinelli's toes even though Marinelli still would have had a job, why would you think he would have been okay with the team firing Marinelli so he could have the job?

I saw it as being potentially awkward being the new DC while the former DC is still on the staff via a "promotion". then it could come down to would Rod want to have input in how ME dialed up his gameplan?
I'm not too upset with ME leaving. Nor am I bashing the Cowboys for letting him "walk".

Great.

Lose Eberflus this year and then Marinelli retires, this year or next.

Even if they happen to find a good one, they're never smart enough to keep them.

But the ones you don't want around? The guys who can't win after 7 years? Yeah, they'll never leave.

Hillarious, we are stupid for letting him go and stupid for trying to keep him. Lol

To me the bigger issue here is that they don't think that highly enough of Marinelli that when the LB coach looks for another job, they scramble to then push Marinelli aside.

If that's the case, then just fire Marinelli and go out and grab a better DC. Clearly, they don't think Marinelli is the best they can do if they were willing to bump him out of his job just to keep Eberflus from going to Indy.

And how do you put the genie back in the bottle?

"Yeah, uh Rod, I know we tried to give the job to Eberflus, but we'd really love to have you back..."

I think Flus see a better opportunity with McDaniel. Wonder if he'd say the same thing if McDaniel decides to stay with Pats as OC. Something tells me if that had happened......he would have taken our DC job.

Eberflus staying here would still be running Rod's defense. He gets to run "his" defense in Indianapolis.

Also, I hope this means they will offer Kris Richard the DC job with Marinelli taking the assistant head coach slash Jerry-like meddler position.
