So what's the plan to fix this monster? I've heard bulging disc all season, but he hasn't been in for surgery etc. from what I've heard. Is he ever going to be the same again? I'm not a back expert so I'm asking who has input etc?

Tyron is only 27.....crazy!

I don't see him playing 16 regular season games ever again and I hope we plan accordingly.

Our offensive line is what separates us from other teams and if you start trotting out 3rd tier players like Cooper and Bell then it can really take away what we do well.

WE need a guy that can play tackle or guard or we need to do some shifting with MArtin whenever Tyron goes out.

I fully expect the organization to try and push Chaz Green or some other scrub on us because that is what they do but we need to invest at that spot to sure things up.

I still can't get over how Chaz Green looked like a pretty good player in 2016 and just looked out of his league in 17.

Not looking that way. Maybe he is refusing to have surgery at his young age. We don’t have access to that info. He is getting a lot of guaranteed money.

I take everything the team says about injuries with a grain of salt, but this was the latest I have heard:

https://247sports.com/nfl/dallas-co...on-Smith-will-be-good-to-go-in-2018-113499679

"Tyron is so committed to this team and that group of linemen out there," said executive Stephen Jones, via 105.3FM The Fan. "He was doing everything he could to get himself ready, but I think a good offseason here of getting it to where it needs to be, the thing is I understand we can count on Tyron being back to normal and good to go next year."

To Jones' point, it doesn't appear Smith will have any procedures done this offseason which lends more to rest-and-relaxation being his prescription.

I thought I read it's not something that can be fixed with surgery...I could be wrong about that tho.

2 Aleve and an Ice Pack works for me...maybe they should try that.(kidding...totally kidding).

Im hoping rest helps it.

I'm hoping he goes right into surgery asap BUT he wasn't lost a game this year just due to his back, he had the hip and than the knee.. maybe the back throws off his mechanics but yes he needs this done asap..why guys wait until march to have these and lingers into TC is beyond me..he skipped it last year in hopes of natural healing but it didn't work..

LC better get his at least evaluated and think long term..

lastly we BETTER get a quality swing tackle this year because iMO this might be the single thing that lost us winnable games after Tyrone went down.. the drop off was way too big

Contingency plans, either a draft pick, a starting caliber vet LT, who can swing over and play RT, maybe even both.

Surgery could completely ruin him.

I think he should avoid surgery at all costs.

There is a machine called a reverse hyper extension machine that I hope the Cowboys know about because a lot of people with bulging discs are having success using that.

Yeah if he needs surgery I don't understand why he doesn't have it immediately. We've done this with other players in the past and waited it out, only to have the surgery in May or something and they must TC, etc.

Because any type back surgery is an extremely serious procedure. Its not like he just goes in a gets a simple knee scope. Now as you and others on here already mentioned, we don't know if Smith has refused back surgery, but I wouldn't blame him if he was concerned about possible surgery. On a side not , former San Antonio Spur great David Robinson refused to have back surgery to remove a floating piece of disk in his back. Still has it floating around in his back to this day.

They may not know exactly what the hell they're doing but a good one can fix it.

I had 2 fixed by the same guy now I can't bend over and lift 100 lb without some pain a couple days later but I could play a pretty mean left tackle.
But all bulging discs are different so who knows.
Sadly sounds like we can't depend on him from here on out

The same thing they tried - which failed - to fix the issues from 2016. But sure, let's do the same thing again and expect different results.

Why is it that when we lose our best player at a position. The whole squad tanks. Is it lack of depth , Coaching or attitude. I see other teams such as Philly this year and GB previously not only survive but thrive.

That might be an overstatement. If he simply has a bulging disc problem, the odds of surgery ruining him are not that high. Now if he has a more complicated back issue, then maybe.

FWIW, I had surgery to remove part of a disc back in the mid-90s. It was a fairly standard procedure and there were no real other issues. Also, I am not a 310lb LT in the NFL. LOL.

Tyron isn’t the only OL dealing with a bulging disc concern. La’el Collins also had issues although he was able to play through it. This should be a major concern. Can you imagine what are line would look like if both go down next year? The word so far via Draft experts is.. there’s only a handful of true “plug-n-play” OLineman in this years draft. I believe a 1st round OL should be a priority OR atleast move up with the 2nd round.

Here’s a few causes of bulging disk issues..Just food for thought:
  • Working in an occupation that requires repetitive lifting, bending, standing or driving
  • Improper lifting techniques
  • Participation in contact sports
  • Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption
  • Severe trauma, such as a car accident
  • A family history of disc disease
