Draft guru's, which player has the better upside and best fits our scheme?

I seen where some like both but are pushing Hurst as well.

Vea has the size an I think this is what we need.
Hurst is more of an Aaron Donald type, and versatile.

I hate that versatility crap. We have too many of theses players where the move aroundd and can't just be good at one position. Another reason I hate this defenses and coaching methods.
We need a big run stuffer that can also get to the QB.

Anyway, who is your preference, or does it matter with these two players.
This is for if we take a DT at 19.
Of course if Roquan Smith is there, do we take him. But this is just if both Vea and hurst are there when we pick, and Smith, Ridley or whoever anyone wants is off the board.

Da’Ron Payne. If we are going to take a DT at 19 he would be my choice, I think he brings the best of both worlds in pass rush and run stuffing.

But I still think people are trying to over correct the problem of not having a DT the past few years. I think we can get a guy to play 60% of the snaps and eat up blockers later in the draft or even at a reasonable price in free agency. If a difference maker is there at 19, of course, but I feel like a lot of people are zeroing in on DT a little too much.

I'd rather have Pea bc I think he's a little bit safer.

Hurst has incredible tape and production, but is a tick undersized.

Either way - both are studs I'd be happy with at 19.

I see what you’re saying but we need dogs on defense not jag trash cans. Get guys that want to be great and sure up the heart of the defense

Totally agree on Payne.

There’s no gap between the #19 overall pick and “jag trash cans” in your mind? Because that’s pretty much the exact mentality I’m talking about...”we haven’t had a good 1 tech in a while so we MUST draft 1 with our 1st rounder.”...that’s precisely how bad picks get made

Frankly, I have no issues with them using the 19th pick on Payne or Vea because at this point, I am just tired of ham fisting the 1 Tech position in this defense.

That being said, I definitely see the logic behind the suggestion we shouldn't use the 19th pick on that type of player. Not because of Marinelli's belief he can turn any JAG into a 1 Tech, but rather, if you look around, those guys don't command a lot of money so it might be smarter to use that pick on a guy who will make a lot of money relative to the peers at that position. You can probably find a good 1 Tech in FA for less.

But again, if that's the direction they go and take Payne, for example, I can get on board with that. He's my favorite interior DL of the first round guys.

If we're talking strictly between Vea and Hurst, I'm going Vea because of his size and potential to become an impact force at the 1-tech spot.

Hurst may be nice but he's a 3-tech and I'm not sure what you do with Maliek Collins at that point.

Maurice Hurst,Michigan.
I think he is the best interior DL in the class.
Good v the run.
Good interior rusher.
Not concerned about his weight...they'll fatten him up when he gets here.
He just looks like a Cowboy to me.
LOVE the history of Michigan DL in the Nfl.

Da' Ron payne brings the best of pass rush and run stuffing,??? come on, payne is only a run specialist
payne only have 3 sacks in 3 years!!! Vita vea have 9.5 sacks and hurts 13.5 sacks, the man who brings the best of pass rush and run stuffing is Vita Vea, a freakish player we need

Vea
Taven
Hurst
Payne

I think Vea can play both 1 and 3
I think Taven can play 3 and slide over to DE
Hurst I think is probably stuck at 3
Payne is probably stuck at 1 however a 1 with the ability to push the pocket.

Vea. Irving will be back for at least another year and Collins is a better 3 than 1

Hurst at 19? think he could possibly go that high? Pats have no shot a Vita, but Hurst? Possibly... I was targeting him at 32 for the mock

I don't know enough about them yet ie. motor, but if I was taking fatty i'd want them to be a permanent young fixture on the line.

For me, that's Vea or Payne.

Set it and forget it.

I think the scouts may have Hurst rated higher than fans.

Hurst -- just too light for me. google showed him at 269
Yes I like Vea the most out of those. Love that he can take another player and push him into the ball carrier if he can't get to the runner. But, strong and fast. Can beat double and triple teams. Would clog the middle for sure

If Vea is what he appears to be then they need to draft him. He would either command the attention to free up other players or he would collapse the O-line consistently. Draft him and tell Marinelli to figure it out.
