Albert Breer MMQB POD quotes re: Dez

"didn't do enough of the extra stuff, when to make up for it when his physical ability started to leave him"

"it came down to stuff like doing squats, like they couldn't get him to do squats. and he was losing inches off his vertical."

"tryin' to tell him, Dez you're losing explosiveness and they couldn't get him on board with it, maybe this is the shakeup he needs"

Pretty harsh words. Likely coming from coaches, but still.

I assumed that his physical slip was primarily due to injuries, with a little age thrown in. If he wasn't doing the work he needed to get his physical edge back, then he wasn't going to get better here, especially without refining his route running (and we needed him to play like the No. 1 we were paying him to be). Older players have to understand the level of training and film study needed to stay at the level they were when they were in peak form.

The team should share the blame.

His actions would not have been tolerated by Jimmy Johnson or Bill Belichick.

The only way those types will adhere is to bench them. Players know Belichick will bench them; therefore most adhere and never actually get benched. Belichick did bench a player for the Super Bowl but the name is not coming to mind at the moment.

Well I don’t think his actions are being tolerated. Hence they cut his *** didn’t even bother to ask him to take a pay cut. They are sick of his antics. Sick of his dedication.

But he's goin to WR school to larn isn't he. And he's hangin with OBJ, that should be a positive experience. "Nah man, I'm still Dez, c'moan man"

Because we need to replace them, now that he's gone. That should be the teams primary focus, not leaking out dirt on Dez.

He’s already been replaced. AH will provide the same production. They will try to get a new WR1 in the next couple drafts. They haven’t had that type of player since 2014.

Coach anonymous told him all of this?

The juice is good.

The HC. For all the talk of process, right kind of guy, and team culture, they failed to manage Dez. Squats should not be optional. Learning how to run routes should not be either. Or showing effort on all plays.

Work ethic matters.

They used to report how he would do too much and they had to dial him back.

Now they’re like... Welllll... He won’t squat.

Dez being lazy is laughable. I can buy him not wanting to do something they asked but Dez not being a hard worker is a joke.

Blah blah blah.

Dak sucks at throwing. That’s the real problem.

Teams need to "break" players like Dez when they're rookies. Parcells made 1st round pick serve as his waiter during practice. Jimmy was on anybody arse that had a hint of attitude but that was double for rookies.

Dez rookie training camp was with Wade as the head coach.

Then Dez was allowed to bypass Garrett and go directly to Jerry.

Garrett should have pushed back more at some point. Garrett probably had Jerry's favor after 2016 which is when he should have cracked the whip on Dez in training camp.

The had to dial his mouth back.

As much as I have crapped on Dez, I find it extremely hard to believe that anyone in the NFL isn't doing squats. This looks like a hatchet job by a hack reporter.

Not sure if true or not. But competing on the field and competing when no one is watching in the weight room are 2 different things.

"Your legs are the first thing to go. Do your squats"..................the great Bill parcels. Bill knew best.

I can remember it being reported that Vinny Testaverde worked out with the lineman and could hang with the best
doing squats. He played 21 years.... I concur. Bill knew best.

Your best players need to be your hardest workers. This is true in every aspect of life.
Otherwise, you crumble when the going gets tough.
navy seals understand this very well. no slackers on the teams.

He was the hardest working at running his mouth. Does that count for anything?

Dez is an idiot. That's the biggest issue.
