What a tremendous player Witten has been for the NFL and the Cowboys. Not only great on the field, but a truly great person who touched so many lives in a positive way.

In my 47 years as a Cowoys fan, I have purchased 2 players jerseys, Staubach and Witten. I will always wear #82 proudly!

Dunno, he's a huge Booger fan and wouldn't go against him. I think this is a 'the window is open now' situation and he passed the audition and he'd better jump on this while he can. Windows like that do not open frequently, look how long Sims and Gruden had those jobs and how long Aikman has been in his.

If this is fact, what a feather in the Star on the helmet, all 3 key analyst gigs held by Cowboys. That's something.

Could be that they finally told him that his snaps were going to be greatly reduced and that they wanted to play the young guys more.

I will also say this, while many will say we need to start looking at TE now, I kinda go the other way here. We are going to really miss his ability to block inline. I think what we really need to do now is address the OL with a quality lineman to shore up that unit as much as possible. Complete TEs are really hard to find in the NFL and the only one that might have a chance to come in and start day one went in the 1st round last night, IMO. Good receiving TEs left and some guys who could develop but not day one guys IMO.

With Dez & Witten gone now, this is looking more like a rebuild now and I would pass on Earl Thomas.

but it has also been reported he is meeting with Jerry prior to making a final decision, I hope he decides to play for one more season.

Otherwise, I am unsure what the best route forward is. I don't want to force a rookie TE into the roster, and there aren't any great guys available in FA. The cap space is great, but unless we trade for ET, we're not likely to use it.

WOW thats some sad news . He will be remembered as one of the greats. IVe been saying for some time Cowboys need a TE to go along with Witten . Now they need one to go alone with Rico . Jason still has some great hands and blocking . I would of liked to see what Dak and Zeke could of done with more two TE sets now that Dez is gone. I think it could of been deadly and made for some great battles for the NFCE. Yes Im and Eagles fan , but I love football. Id rather watch a good game vs a crappy blow out

Its kinda messed up that Jason did not decide sooner . You know like 2 months ago when you could of got somone to fill his place. Losing a player like him is tough and may never replace him .... But there was some good TE this FA . Hell I could of seen Burton heading to Dallas to stick it to the Eagles . Its almost like reverse Karma for not releasing Dez until late in FA :x
