Rumor: Mortensen: Witten to retire **merged**

noooo I want the Eagles to get him . Would be Sick to have him along side of Ertz. I wonder if this now messes up the ET trade that seems to be in the mix. Do Cowboys "as rumored " still use their 2nd for ET or grab one of the 2 Topp TE yet to be selected. I think TE is a very important postion for Dak and his style of play

If it messes up the ET trade, then that is great!

Thank you for a Hall of Fame career, Witten. This also makes our offense better overall, IMO. He has lost a lot.

While this is a window opportunity, it is not without risk. The relationship between ESPN and the NFL has been deteriorating for years and the owners don't like the coverage of the negative aspects like the anthem, concussions and off the field issues and ESPN claims they've been getting short changed on the scheduling with a bunch of stiffs in retaliation. ESPN is hurting financially and may have to drop the MNF franchise so I hope Witten has a fat contract or an out clause to go with the new carrier, if they decide to keep what I think is a dead idea. The ratings have been in steady decline for years and imo, MNF has run it's course.

Perhaps this is partly why the Cowboys did not take WR in the 1st. Gonna get a TE that is more of a receiver/weapon.

I actually wished that this news would not have broke right now. Would have been better had it not. Nobody was really looking for us to take a TE. Now, anybody who needs one knows we might be thinking TE as well. That's a bummer.

that immediately crossed my mind as well.

TE in the 2nd round.
Negative!
Bundle up a sweet deal, scoop up that OG Hernandez by hook or crook, in the immediacy of the second round, #4 will have to make due with our current onboard inventory of non visually obtainable Targets,,,o_O

What makes Romo's situation different than Witten's?
Romo earned almost all of his prorated signing bonuses

He played 4 of the 7 years of his 7/119m extension........ his original 25m signing bonus was down to 5m and the team decided not to pursue it though they technically could have

Witten's 4.7m signing bonus is for games he hasn't played yet so he has to pay it back

Actually, not blaming Dak, but his success in 2016 will shape this team for the next 5-10 years because of the moves that it caused. If Dak turns out great it will be OK. If not it will be a disaster.

Agreed - but it had nothing to do with the 3 players mentioned. They were all near the end for the reasons I already mentioned whether Dak came along or not.

Your assessment is more than fair though.
