It's possible that was the plan all along, but somehow word got out.

No. He should of retired at the beginning of FA when he was thinking about it. Just like folks said the Cowboys should have done with Dez. Like Parcells always said "if you thinking about retirement...then your already retired."

I'm sure that would have changed their draft plans.

Maybe the MNF offer just came up.

And that "finalizing it with Booger" could just be fluff and he was already aware. Knowing prior to the draft wouldn't have made any difference in their needs in round 1.

I believe it did have the negative Dez effect. He would still be here and fine with Romo. Dallas would be looking for a Romo replacement yesterday with 5 QB's taken in the first round and 1 that a lot had ranked as the very best of the group right there at 10(easy to go up for)

I sure hope Dak comes thru.

We'll have to agree to disagree on Dez. While Romo undoubtedly had better chemistry with him, this version of Dez is simply not the same, IMO. Even his hands are average to below now! Not something that typically you lose with age but he somehow has.
