He had bad throws just like any other qb has bad throws. He was asked to do more which he is not cut out for. He’s not going to be asked to throw for 300+ and 3 tds a game. Run the ball well play great defense and don’t turn it over. Last season was marred with suspensions and clearly behind the scenes issues. Right the ship this year.

Oh brother. The Cowboys were a pass first team then and are a run first team now.

You can do better.

Think you need to do better thks.....Murray HB stats for the same years ....seems he ran a little now and then .....

1 -There were some straight up awful decisions and throws from Dak. Pressure or not.
2 -There were some that were thrown away for multiple reasons.
3- There were bad routes run.
Also, if the ball hits your hands or face you HAVE to make those plays as a WR. It's not BS, not every pass if going to be perfectly delivered. We didn't a whole bunch of talent at WR last season.

The Dez defenders will only see number 3 and claim that Dak is being excused.
The Dak defenders will only see number 1 and dismiss blaming the QB.

The truth lies somewhere in the middle.

I pretty much agree, but if a ball is thrown behind a WR and he still manages to get his hands to touch it, that is more on the QB in my opinion. Ball placement is an important skill. It's true that some of the blame still lies on the WR.

Maybe, but it also depends on where the WR was supposed to be. I have no issue blaming the QB for a bad pass. But, if a WR can get his hands on it whatsoever, they at the very least make a play on it so the defender cannot. Volleying a pass into the air for all to grab is not JUST on the QB.

5 out of 13 Ints went right off receivers hands (2 Terrence, 3 Dez)
3 were cause by arm or body contact during the throw
This is true - but that doesn't necessarily mean Dak is blameless on those throws. Without specifically parsing through the video...

A ball thrown to the wrong side of a receiver could hit his hands, but still be a bad throw.
Holding the ball too long in the pocket could lead to contact.

The reality is that both receivers and Dak deserve a lot of blame for the passing game last year. Nitpicking individual plays doesn't accomplish much.

How many years was Romo in the league during those seasons?

Where is every int thrown in 2016?
since this is a Dak thread
heres football outsiders adjusted interceptions from 2017
Dak threw 13 picks, 1 was a 'hail mary' and 3 were tipped by receiver into hands of defender
8 were potential interceptions that the defender dropped
so adjusted interceptions is 17

for comparison Wentz threw 7 picks and 6 were dropped with no tips so 13 adjusted

Rodgers threw 6

Roethlisberger threw 14 and had 4 more dropped

Brady threw 8 and had 5 dropped

for comparison in 2016 Dak threw 4 and had 3 dropped

My observations after going through it 1 time....

- I would guess 85+% were targeted toward Dez.
- Only about 4 or 5 ints were just flat out on Dak. Most of those seemed to happen in the latter part of the season post Atlanta debacle.
- A few happened as a result of being hit as he threw.
- A couple happened by a combo of pressure and Dak anticipating Dez going one way and he turns the other. Eagle int in endzone comes to mind....
- We have a real gem here if this is his "bad" season.

on the HAVE statement - There is some middle ground here - fast balls behind you are inevitably going to be missed if you keep throwing them- they just are- reaction time is different in all cases depending on the situation. Not giving anybody any excuses....

Y'all want to see some of the worst interceptions ever in Cowboys history?

Check this out...

Romo's last 4 years as a starter (2012 - 2015 seasons). He was in his early 30s, supposed to be a veteran QBs prime years, especially with Romo's experience up to that point.

Check out these interpretations. Some of the worst throws ever made.... into double and triple coverages, across the middle of the field against good coverage (deadly sin), off his back foot, off balanced throws, not enough arm/zip behind some, too much air behind others, and some of the worst choke drive-killing/game & season ending "win or go home" jobs seen in a very long time throws.

But yeah, let's instead bash on Dak's 2017 13 interceptions where 5 of those easily were on the receivers.

Ball 1- Hit's dez and bounces off into the defenders arm

Ball 2- Later revealed, Dez ran the wrong route. It's pretty obvious by the tape

Ball 3-Dak gets crushed by the oline before released into the air

Ball 4- Terrance Williams is an idiot

Ball 5- Horrible decision by Dak throwing it into double coverage

Ball 6-Horrible Decision by Dak in the redzone. I'm not sure what he wanted to do here

Ball 7-Terrance Williams is an idiot

Ball 8-Terrible Read by Dak

Ball 9-Potentially the worst throw i've ever seen Dak make. The chargers game was just awful.

Ball 10-Hit by the olinemen which caused it to float to the sidelines. Damn good play by the defender too

Ball 11-] Dez is an idiot

Ball 12- Dez is a 12 million dollar idiot

Ball 13-Awful throw by Dak. I think it just sailed on him and he meant to get to Zeke.

By mycount

7 of those were due to the skill position players. 6 were horrible plays by Dak. Mind you, those 6 were awful! However, I love Romo but he made boneheaded decisions too. Every qb does. If 6 is what we are worried about, we're in good shape. I'm not worried about the turnovers with Dak. I'm more worried about him not pushing the ball downfield and being effective doing so.

Some perspective.

2017
(in 4 games when Smith or Martin played less than half of offensive snaps)
1 sack every 8 dropbacks
0 td 7 int

remaining 12 games
1 sack every 29 dropbacks
22 td 6 int

For all the talk of Prescott's accuracy and mechanics, these things had little effect on his performance when the starting OL was playing most of the game. To me, the much bigger issue is that he was unable to deal with pressure (real or anticipated) in games when he was pressured a lot. I think his mechanics, accuracy, progressions, and ability to see open guys and read defenses all went out the window when he was worried about getting hit. Although many take this as a defense of Prescott, it's not. It's just a more precise (and I think more valid) criticism.

1. Bad footwork and ball placement. Should have been an easy pitch and catch.

2. Hard to tell what happened there. It looked like they weren’t on the same page. Dez ran the wrong route, or Dak threw the wrong route. I think we all know what was more likely.

3. Pretty bad. Dak got confused by the double sugar when they both dropped into coverage. He had 2 open slots and then didn’t step up the pocket very well and got blasted.

4. Not great ball placement, but should be catchable by an NFL WR.

5. Again, he didn’t step into the pocket. Looked like he stared down a WR and then got hit when he threw it. He had someone open underneath.

6. Not much time in the pocket. Horrible jump pass.

7. Perfect strike, but Twill tried to jump and catch it.

8. Not sure what happened, hard to tell. Obviously, the defender was lurking and he didn’t get enough on the ball.

9. Ill advised pass. He tried to throw it off his back foot while tracking sideways.

10. Again, didn’t step into the pocket and it got tipped.

11. Bounced right off the WR’s hands.

12. See above

13. Didn’t set his feet. Horrible pass.

The biggest issues Dak seemed to have last year was pocket presence and footwork. These are two pretty big issues, IMO. I don't know how much clout Kellen Moore will bring, and thusly, I don't know if he is the guy to fix Dak, considering they were teammates. This is a huge year for Dak, and I hope he has been working on his craft.
