The best early edge pass rusher in franchise history. Andrie put up solid stats, and was an unsung player playing on a defense that included Bob Lilly, Chuck Howley, Lee Roy Jordan, Cornell Green and Mel Renfro. It was his return of a Bart Starr fumble (caused by Willie Townes) for a touchdown that gave the Cowboys their first score in the Ice Bowl, and swung the momentum in Dallas' favor. RIP to #66.

Original Doomsday Defense Member. Andrie was what Harvey Martin became to Randy White. He was the guy that freed Bob Lily from double teams on pass rush. Andre could have played as a 4-3 RDE today. If Lily did not get you Andrie would get you.

I became a Cowboys fan in 1968 and remember George Andrie. Condolences to his family and Cowboy fans.

If you young uns want to know what George Andrie meant to the original “Doomsday” defense just go back and watch the iconic Ice Bowl game from Dec 31, 1967. Our first TD that game was Mr. Andrie himself. Watch the great play he and Bob Lily made to pinch Bob Griese in SB VI.

George Andre was the 60s equivalent of the great Tony Tolbert of the 90s. Not the best defensive linemen but still dam good.

RIP #66. Doomsday forever.

The NFL didn't recognize quarterback sacks as an official stat until 1982; however, the Cowboys have their own records, dating back before the 1982 season. According to the Cowboys' stats, Andrie is unofficially credited with a total of 97 sacks, leading the Cowboys in sacks each year from 1964 to 1967, with a high of 18.5 in 1966. Andrie also had eight straight games with a sack from 1966 to 1967, making it the fourth longest such streak in club history. He ranks fifth on the team's All-time sack leaders list.

Thanks for posting this. I was going to post he was credited by the Cowboys with 95 unofficial sacks. But I trust your stats.

Andrie and Jethro Pugh were unheralded members on a truly great defense. The 1971 defense rivals the 1977 for best in team history. The 1970 and 1992 teams were also stellar.

Andrie played in the shadow of Bob Lilly, who lined up next to him, and in the shadows of HOF ends of his era - Gino Marchetti, Willie Davis, Doug Atkins, Carl Eller and Deacon Jones.

Andrie-Lilly formed one of the best DE-DT tandems in NFL history.

RIP #66

Also note those 18.5 sacks came in a 14 game season.
