That's true in a lot of ways.

The best way to beat the Cowboys over the years is either let them stall out with a stupid penalty or press the WR's and blitz the QB because we didn't have a modern pass game to take advantage of those defenses.

I'll just remind that before the 'Burning of Atlanta' we were averaging around 30 PPG last year.

Lol. If we come out doing the same thing with different players.. I know we have new coaches that have them running better routes so hoping they can get open. Assuming more shots down field. Maybe using RB more in passing. Austin will be running our jet sweeps.

But maybe we have been secretly working on much different stuff. How would we hide this in practice as much of it has fans there?

If they put any effort into making this pass game more dynamic I will applaud them.

Looking for matchups and not being so incredibly predictable and actually making DB's have to think when defending will be nice

I'm just upset Dez never got an opportunity here to play for a coach that didn't allow DB's to sit on all of his routes.

He should be on a roster and if he goes to the right team people are going to be irate at our front office because he will produce and we will have boring Hurns and a Hall of Fame flag football guy in Tavon Austin.

I'd like to believe in this - and most of the signs point to what you're mentioning being right on. No way our offense will look as boring as it did when Dak was playing this preseason. Clearly this staff has turned a page to believe that preseason is a waste of everyone's time (and injury opps) so that also jives with not showing any of the hand that we will play when the lights come on.

There is a way our new WRs can win with precise routes and formations/movement. I hope our staff can institute some of that, but I have heavy doubts there as well. We just have to be able to beat 8 and 9 men in the box, and we need more deep passing from getting speed in 1v1.

If it does look different do we keep changing throughout the season and be a week to week team or will we just create tendencies and fall into the same trap we always do.

We saw what he did to this team last year with his spoiled brat behavior. No GM wants a one trick pony who always complains.

all we need to do to improve on offense is be more balanced. running plays and passing plays need to be about the same.

This weekend has an eerie, onerous feel to it as a Cowboys fan.

But it's also wrapped in a shroud of uncertainty for Carolina as well.

Carollina can play some defense, and last year's Cowboys offense would likely struggle to score more than 20 points against it. The Panthers can play you straight up, sit in zones, and fly to the short throws. That was Kryptonite for the Cowboy offense last season.

However, this isn't last year's Cowboys offense. Dallas showed almost nothing in preseason, vanilla-ing teams to death through a dreadfully boring 16 quarters of yuck. Basic, basic, basic. Not a hint of nuance or misdirection all August long.

Entirely by design. Carolina is left entirely to guess.

Gone are Witten and Dez. Here are Austin, Hurns, Gallup, Thompson, Olawale, 17 new tight ends, and an entirely new coaching staff under Linehan, along with a subtle hint from Mr. Jones to "make things more comfortable for Dak" by implementing more of what he did in college.

What's next is pure speculation. Including ours. The first couple of teams on the schedule get to find out first what's not on film yet.

Will it look wildly different? No, it'll still be Zeke and the freight-train running game carrying the water, but expect a lot of new looks, especially on 3rd downs. Austin will be all over the place. Look for a lot of underneath "picks" and quick outs disguised in all sorts of packages, along with some deep shots down the sideline when they can get single coverage with late safety help.

Will it work? Sure, I think it'll help quite a bit. Will it score more points? I have my doubts. Will it work against good defenses several games from now when it's all on film? That's where my darkest doubts lie.

Granted, it often takes a couple of weeks for NFL teams to settle in and find their rhythm, especially with so few reps in the preseason. So only so much can be expected or gleaned from the first game of the season.

But I believe the new-look Cowboys offense is hoping to steal some games early on the strength of their current anonymity. A good start to the season is vital with multiple tough games looming.

The Cowboys can weather the storm better with it's new-found defense. It's up to the offense to find a new stride, too, and as quickly as possible.

Carolina is a good test, and a great chance to take a big offensive step in the right direction.

......good post mate. That's an affirmative Will Robinson. I hoping yer right about the Vanilla mirage offense we saw in preseason. Im so bias with Linehan, I'm afraid he'll bring same ole', same ole'. Our 1st team defense looks to make us a contender. .....lets play some ball.

I hope we blitz if their injured starters on the O-line is unable to play. Give Cam no time to set his feet.

We may not need to. Our DE can bring pressure all by themselves. Bring pressure from the outside and crash the pocket. Keep him trapped. I don’t like him running on us. May use Jaylon as a spy. He can catch him. Lol

OP is right that this is the type of defense we struggle against. We will most likely need to win with defense.

If our offense does well we can get VERY excited.
