Dallas Cowboys: It’s time to start giving Dak Prescott some credit

...Prescott actually deserves some credit for the way he has played from the beginning of the season to today. The Dallas Cowboys front office left Prescott short a true number one receiver, but even with a receiving core that didn’t scare teams, he put up decent numbers for the situation he was given.

When you look at his numbers he was completing 62.1 percent of his passes while averaging 202 yards, 6.9 yards per attempt, with eight touchdowns to four interceptions. Those numbers gave him a passer rating of 87.4 through the first eight weeks. Again not great numbers but for what he was given that is pretty good.

Now when the Dallas Cowboy front office realized the error of their ways putting their franchise quarterback in that position they immediately went out and got Dak Prescott a number one receiver. And in the four weeks since his arrival, Prescott has shown everyone what he can do when he has a big-time threat on the outside.

With receiver Amari Cooper on the field, Dak Prescott is completing 97.7 percent of his passes and averaging 240 yards, and 7.3 yards per attempt with three touchdowns to one interception. Those numbers give him a new passer rating of 96.4 with Cooper on the field. Those numbers look like they will continue to rise as the season goes along...

This would make sense.

But I have not figured DAK out.

He is not a straight line progression.

He has tremendously benefitted from the OL RB and now a WR.

But given all that..

He has sort of gyrated in place and not progressed.

Fumbles, interceptions and sacks has been his highlights for the most part.

If I see him drop back and take another sack..

Going to puke.

He’s benefited from Zeke....fair enough. But you can’t tell me he’s benefiting from the likes of this offensive line that has Zach Martin, a inconsistent Collins and a bunch of cast offs. And earlier in the season he had the worst receiving core in the league. His team isn’t nearly as stacked as Brees or Goff’s.

He did nothing in that Commanders game as a passer to impress. It's just that his #1 WR took advantage of a defender falling down and poor tackling to rack up 100 yards of RAC for two scores. Giving him 280 yards and those 2 TDs.

He limits the offense so much. Everything is checkdown.

Yeah..

He is conservative pulling the trigger at times and holds the ball too long.

The interception he made trying to squeeze one in to Cooper in the end zone was a terrible throw at an important time in the game.

I see him running things in himself now.

Better choice.

"Winner" and "Clutch" are the words that come to mind.

Almost 300 yards, 3 TD's, with no turnovers against the 5th ranked scoring defense in the league. Something our offense has traditionally struggled with in the past. When you look at the big picture Dak has performed amazing in light of circumstances. I think we have played 6 games against teams with a top 10 scoring defense vs a team like the Saints with 1. We have been in every single one of them.

All this with completly new cast and no true number one for most of them. Not being as predictable with the playcalling has helped a ton as well imo.

Truly amazing though. Immediate future looks bright for this team as a whole and this offense.

Here's the last 4 games since the trade:

91 of 130 70% 1,010 yd 7.8 ypa 5 td 1 int 102.4

If we could get this every time, we'd win more than we'd lose. I still think the holes in his game (holding the ball too long, not reading the defense well, missing some throws he has to hit) keep us from being a powerhouse on offense, but we'd probably have at least two to three more victories with that kind of play from the QB position.

Wasnt his second long rac pass to Cooper something like 30 yards in the air?

A little over 20 from the LOS, but technically yes around 30 from the pocket.
And he still had to make the throws, on both TD's. Dak deserves credit there. But some can't admit that.

Jerry rice and the WCO says HI...my QB's did that all the time....but no one can see that either.

Amari Cooper said, even is practice that pass was not to be to him, only 10% of the time they throw it to that spot. But Dak seen him on both plays, and the coverage, and both times for TD's.
Yes Dak deserves credit if 5 yards or 20 years in the air.
If I remember right, Cooper caught it right around the 30. Dak had to be near the goal line to the 5 yard line when he threw it.

That was his best throw. 22 yards into triple coverage. The rest was all Cooper as he reversed direction to break free.

I can count on one hand this year that kind of throw from Prescott. Which is rather routine for a good QB.

His best throws are the ones he dosen't make. The ones that put us in detriment against top defenses.
