Question for the Dak Detractors

It's because the hate is coming from the still upset Romoholics. They hate Dak!
Dude has only had winning seasons since entering the league. I have never seen such hate for a player that has the 3rd most wins in the NFL since he was drafted despite coaching and no weapons until recently........ Before haters jump in, weapons as in WR and TE

The exact way almost every franchise gets better...you suck 1st.

In a hypothetical world where I was GM I would be trying to trade Dak to any team that feels he’s franchise qb worthy to avoid extending him (0% chance he plays out his rookie deal). You then sign a mediocre vet to only win 3 games and take your QB in 2020 and go from there.

Obviously I know that won’t happen, but to be true SB contenders I think that’s what has to happen. And no I don’t think Dak is terrible, I just don’t think we will ever win a SB with him. He can/will probably get us to playoffs, but I want the biggest prize and don’t want to be content with just being competitive and hoping/praying for the enomally season of winning a SB with Dak.

It's a mental thing. They simply hate Dak since Dak unseated and forced into retirement their hero.

It's always funny to me that people just immediately go to the "hate" criticism when posters aren't fawning over a player.

Why can't it be simply be that Dak is a middling QB with a limited ceiling?

As a Dak detractor here is what I would do.

1) No extension for Dak. He plays 2019 under his current deal.
2) I draft someone in the 2nd or 3rd round - Finley, maybe a Grier (if they fall as both might get overvalued and end up in Rd 1). The kid from Duke is another raw kid that might be there in the 3rd round.
3) I investigate what it could cost for Bridgewater. No other FA makes sense.
4) I bring in a legit OC that can work with a QB like Dak. Linehan and Moore get crap canned.

I am basically carpet bombing the QB position this offseason, if I can.

Lincoln Riley for HC and Kliff Kingsbury as OC works for me.

Dak is a middling QB with a limited ceiling who has predictably come on since the arrival of new #1 receiver Amari Cooper.

So then in 2019 you have Dak, White, draft pick, & maybe Bridgewater.

Who is your starter? Do we think they're going to have a legit QB competition? We know Dak's not great in practice, so I don't think he would win out even though he might be the best option.

Hard decisions.

Exactly, this is not rocket science here.

For some fans, they believe that might be good enough to become a legit contender. Others believe that in order to be a legit contender you need better play out of your QB.

I don't get the Bridgewater love

He was average before the devasting injury and hasn't shown a thing since

People pining for him are wishcasting at best.....just a name and not a good one

Bridgewater is very Dak-like. A little better arm, but not as much size.

The intention is for this not to be another typical Dak thread. This is for the contingent fans that are ready to move on from Prescott as the QB of the Dallas Cowboys. Instead of debating Dak’s merits (or lack thereof) again, let’s operate under the supposition that we’re moving on, as that is the cry from so many.

So, the question is how do you do so and who is the target. Obviously the two options that exist are free agency and the draft.

2019 Free agents QBs: ................ 2019 probable Draft QBs:

Tyrod Taylor ........................ Justin Herbert, Oregon.
Josh McCown ........................ Drew Lock, Missouri.
Teddy Bridgewater ........................ Will Grier, West Virginia.
Ryan Fitzpatrick ........................ Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State.
Robert Griffin III ........................ Ryan Finley, NC State.
Derek Anderson ........................ Clayton Thorson, Northwestern.
Geno Smith ........................ Jarrett Stidham, Auburn.
Brock Osweiler ........................ Tyree Jackson, Buffalo.
Matt Barkley
Tom Savage
Taylor Heinicke
Brett Hundley
Trevor Siemian

Obviously some of the Draft picks will be out of reach without our #1 pick. Additionally, you can pretty much guarantee you’re not going to win a championship with a rookie. It’s an investment that takes time.

On the FA front, there may be a few QBs that are available with a trade. Possible Carr, maybe Winston.

So what’s the plan ladies & gentlemen?
W/o reading further, I bet this has already become a typical silly Dak thread w/ the same ol' posters posting the same ol' drivel!!!!!!

Especially in the direction the league is going.

White is useless. People need to stop clinging onto these late round types as having any real value. The guy is a backup, at best, in this league.

If I can get Bridgewater on a decent deal, he and Dak compete, the rookie sits and learns. Assuming I get Bridgewater for a fairly decent contract, I am not in any financial crunch regardless of who wins the competition or not - Dak or Bridgewater.

My guess is that in a QB starved league someone might get stupid and pay Bridgewater big money.

And FWIW, I don't think there is any chance in hell Dallas would do this. Jerry is going all in on Dak without giving himself any real safety net here.

Yup.

No point in trying to have even a decent QB discussion on these boards!!

We traded away our 1st round pick this year and it's slim pickings in the FA market.
Barring a total collapse, Dak is an absolute lock to be here next year

Maybe for a few, but the idea that all those who aren't sold on Dak are that way because they are bitter Romo got benched is some of the dumbest stuff uttered on this board.

And that's impressive.
The extremes on both sides of this argument are the dumbest stuff uttered on this board.

More than likely yes.

But even in committing to Dak being here in 2019, there are ways the Cowboys could insulate themselves here. One, don't panic and give him a long term deal. Maybe let him play out the 2019 season on his rookie deal. Two, as tough as it might be, maybe take a QB in the 2nd or 3rd rounds this year in the draft. Three, admit your screw up and bring in a real QB coach that has a history of developing QBs and bring in a new OC (if you aren't going to fire Garrett).

There's no shot they would actually bring in a vet FA to compete with him like Bridgewater. Fitzpatrick would likely cost way too much.

The dumbest thing this franchise could do, and sadly I think this is the most likely, is just keep the status quo. Think Dak is definitely the future, the QB and OC coaches are fine, assume White and Rush are able competition, etc. Basically, just give Dak more weapons in the offseason and we'll be high flying on O just like the Saints and others.

I don't think it is possible to move on from Dak and compete for a championship in the same year without signing a high caliber starter who has become available for strange reasons. Peyton Manning is a recent example. I don't see a QB of that caliber becoming available next year and Teddy Bridgewater is not of that caliber. Maybe Joe Flacco (he won Superbowls and will likely be available) but I don't think he has enough left.

That means Dallas would have to draft a QB who would become better than what Dak's ceiling is. Drafting a QB pushes a Superbowl run back two or three seasons at least and with the draft picks Dallas would have to use to move up for a QB there wouldn't be much left to support that QB.
