The offense was pretty predictable back in the day too, but that isn't Aikman, Smith, Irvin, Moose and Novaceck out there now I guess.

Predictable alright. “1st and goal at the one....and pass.” “Biggest game of the year....don’t run Dak.” ect, ect, ect. He never tailored things to highlight Dak’s abilities, and called an endless amount of “What? Why?” plays to have even me wanting Garrett taking back over the duties, which is a bigger statement than anything I can say.

Yeah, you need a true pocket passer to run that the system the same. They are going to have to change things in terms of not trying to make Dak fit into this offense, and adjust it to fit his strengths. Which thankfully Stephen touched on and agreed with.

I'm not sure whose failure this was Linehan or Garret. Linehan was calling plays but its still within the framework of Garret's offensive philosophy and game planning. In general, where the cowboys failed was making in-game adjustments. In the Ram loss, it should have become very apparent that the Rams had the DL talent to stuff the run and that we wouldn't be running between the tackles. But we continued to run Zeke into that brick wall 20 times without variation or creativity..........the 4th and 1 into the 10 man front pretty much summed up the problem.

So I get this but it should be noted that the great Cowboys Super Bowl offense of the early 90s had an element of predictability to it as well. The difference was in the livelihood of skill at every position..

The Oline was second to none.
Irvin, Emmitt, Troy, Novacek, etc etc.

That offense could execute like no other and good luck trying to stop them. Often times, you knew exactly what they were going to do and couldn't do a thing about it.

This doesn't excuse Linehan. He was just an atrocious planner/,organizer/strategist.

But, at the core, I appreciate a former player coming out and telling it like it is. Linehan sucked and he's part of the Garrett tree. You know. . The tree with limbs that fall off at the first hint of a slight wind.

A great offense will have a level of predictability to it but still be strategically sound enough to win those situations that arise during the course of a game.

Listening to Tony Romo on Sunday, the Patriots offense seemed pretty predictable

Big difference is the ability to execute
BIG DIFFERENCE was the Chiefs inability to cover Gronk and Edelman. That was the difference. What's upsetting is that those two receivers actually are guardable. Chiefs simply failed to do it, so Brady took full advantage.

The point here is that you have to adapt the offense to the talent you have on the field. What Garret/linehan have done is impose an offensive philosophy onto their talent and it just didn't fit. I look for the new OC to be a lot more creative with Dak and design an offense that caters to his strengths. The trial period is over. Dak is the QB for the foreseeable future.

I thought it was time for Linehan to go but we had some great seasons under him. We have to remember when we brought him in it was to be paired with Romo. That changed so a change was needed.

This is true. For example the Rams smartly figured that we would pretty much sell out to stop the pass as our defensive gameplan and they ran it down our throats the entire game because we refused to adjust. The Rams also knew we would refuse to adjust our offensive gameplan.

Yep, simply telling our guys to play better doesn't help much when the other team schemes better.

The Rams OL said after the game that our DL had tells. They knew what the defense was going to do on 75% of the snaps. Goff would stand under center and literally watch the jumbo tron for the tells and then make pre-snap adjustments. There was a big discussion last week. So, if thats true and it seems to be, even if we adjusted, it wouldn't have mattered. We have to do a better job of disguising the defense pre-snap and the DTs have to be coached to line-up in a consistent way so as not to give away the stunts.
