Look for the Dallas Cowboys to target a pass rusher in free agency or the upcoming draft. Besides the news today that potential free agent Demarcus Lawrence will need shoulder surgery, word at the combine is that the franchise has tired of Randy Gregory, who is in the final year of his contract. There is a belief here at the Senior Bowl that the Cowboys will try and put a package together to move up in the draft and get a pass rusher if they don’t get it figured out in free agency.

This makes no sense to me.

Gregory didn't accrue 6 games in 2016, so he has a year of RFA after this year which means we'll get him for the 2020 season. Lawrence will have 8 months to get his shoulder right for an injury that takes about 3-4 months to recover from.

I wonder if it is Charlton, they are tired of, after all he didn't dress for several games in the run in.
That seems more likely but still, we have Crawford whose solid and Armstrong developing. Suppose we could shift Crawford inside permanently but I like him as a RDE that kicks inside on passing downs.

Not sure I believe this......can't imagine FO NOT being happy Gregory's progress by end of the season. In fact, I thought I heard or read somewhere he actually started the last few games. I'm not saying we won't or shouldn't draft a DE. Just don't see it as a priority enough to burn a high pick. Hell, we have way more need for DT.....

A torn labrum is nothing for a football player. Gregory has shown something but i am not ready to say he has answered all the questions and can be an effective every down pass rusher.

Yeah, they weathered through the uncertainty of Gregory for years only to see some positive gains from him this year. I don't get the "the franchise has tired of Randy Gregory" sentiment at all, although I do realize we don't see or know the true day-to-day interactions.

For those saying this is misinformation, they have been spending the majority of their time in meetings with D Linemen based on whats been reported so far.

That’s probably a product of DL being the deepest position in this year’s draft.

I don't buy the story, but I can see DAL going after a DE b/c they do almost every year, plus there seems to be some good prospects on the edge this season.

RG - is one relapse away from being gone.
Taco - hasn't been productive.
Dorance - didn't really do much even as a rookie.

If for nothing but insurance I can totally see them getting another DE.

DL - meaning DEs and DTs.

That's a pretty big distinction. And frankly, even with Gregory, they should be investigating DEs this offseason. They have Lawrence and Gregory. Armstrong was a rookie that was OK. And then Charlton who is trending to be a bust. They were once again middle of the pack in sacks and pressures.

So them looking at DEs in the draft and FA doesn't mean they are ready to dump Gregory. That's dumb analysis on Pauline's part. He seems to be equating interest in DEs as a sign they don't like what they have beyond Lawrence.

Not saying I believe the Cowboys have tired of Gregory but the only thing I can think they’d be tired of is maybe baby sitting him to save him from himself. The Cowboys have done this with other players as well. Pac Man Jones for one.

I think this guy is trying to fill in the gaps.
So far they have met with several DTs...not surprising since we got gutted by the rams...but not DEs...tho Im sure that will change.

There was more noise about Taco and his attitude than Gregory....maybe Taco is who they move on from.

Lol.

Demarcus having that shoulder surgery isn't a huge dealbreaker, and "word at the combine is that the franchise has tired of Randy Gregory", huh? Combine huh? Alrighty, then.

I wouldn't hate taking an edge rusher if he's DYNOMITE, but this smells. Smells like crap.

If they have tired of anyone it’s more likely the guy they benched
And Gregory should be a RFA after next season not a FA
