2nd round pick for Ertz. Do it

I was never in favor of trading pick(s) during the season for a player espcecially a receiver but bringing Coopee in helped Dallas win the NFC east and reach the second round of the playoffs from a 3-5 record.......What 27th pick in this upcoming draft which is where Dallas would have picked is better than an established Receiver in Cooper that Dallas needed?

Agreed, except that if not for Cooper, we'd probably be picking around 15.

As funny as it sounds, Eagles may be better off without him.

Wentz has become way too over reliant on throwing to him.

Wentz was 1-4 this year as QB when Ertz has 9 or more catches.

Ertz doesn't really help this team.

He would help this team exceptionally.

A reliable TE threat is exactly what an offense like ours needs. Hopefully Jarwin continues to progress.

FWIW, it has been floated by a couple in their media about trading Ertz................. it hasn't gotten much traction but the logic is that they have an Ertz clone in Goeddert and with their cap issues and the likelihood they will lose key players like Graham and Hicks and others, having multiple high round picks (they already have a first and two second rounders in this draft) will allow them to quickly fill other holes with high level draft picks.

No it's not, because this offense doesn't use TEs as a weapon. Swaim & co. are plenty reliable for what we ask TEs to do - which is block and be a checkdown.

We couldn't use Martellus or Escobar, who were great athletes at the position. Why does anybody think we'd be able to do that with Ertz or anyone else?

Cooper for a 1st round pick was a winner, lets keep this trade train rolling Jerry....go grab Ertz for a 2nd!
You think our division rival is going to trade us their Pro Bowl tight end for a 2nd round pick? He is coming off his best ever season with 100+ catches, over 1,000 yards receiving, and 8 touchdowns. All are career highs. Not going to happen

The Eagles have two high caliber starting TEs on the roster and other than the Patriots back when they had Hernandez I have yet to see a team really make use of two great TEs. It's great depth but not the best use of resources when one of the two is pretty much a limited role player.

Thanks for the background on it. But I have to suspect that no time where the people "floating" the possibility, was it also "floated" that it would be for a "second round pick," right?

It certainly never worked for us any of the three times we did it.

Not much discussion on compensation that I read. One of the radio shows talked about it and it seemed most were thinking something like 2nd round + something else............

Maybe because Witten was here during both Martellus and Escobar, having Pro Bowl seasons?

And Escobar was a mistake from day one. Never worth where the Cowboys drafted him (ahead of the best in the game Travis Kelce by the way, nice work guys!)
