Will Cowboys Fans treat this Super Bowl matchup like 1995 and not watch?

Fine, if you don't want to deal with reality, and want to pretend the rest of the game doesn't exist, I won't stop you.

And if officiating properly is that big of a concern, you probably never should have started watching football.

I didn’t say it didn’t exist. I said I have no interest in the outcome because the wrong team was put in the championship by virtue of a blatant and obvious mistake.

Which only makes logical sense if the rest of the game, and the rest of the mistakes don't exist. In your world, the only part of the game that mattered was the last 2 minutes. It's silly. It's not uncommon, but still silly. It's not logical. Many mistakes were made. The obviousness of them is irrelevant.

I just remember not having any interest in watching the Chargers get beat down by the Niners and never turned the game on at all. Is that this same type of matchup? Pats blowing out the Rams?

I'm a die hard Cowboys fan but I also am a fan of the game of football. I would not miss it. Myself I'm pulling for the Rams.

Wow you must be psychic to know I didn't watch that one ;) But yeah, I can't take the patriots winning one more. I'll probably start watching it at home, and if the rams get behind keep track of it on the computer, ready to go back to watching if they catch up.

I'm saying that mistake that gifted the Rams a possession they would not otherwise have had happened at a point at which the outcome of the game was 100% decided. I'm saying there was effectively a 0% chance the Saints wouldn't have just run out the clock and won, and that didn't happen because of terrible officiating. It doesn't matter if other mistakes occurred earlier or if the game could have gone either way based on how they were interpreted. The refereeing error changed the outcome of that game, regardless. That's the one thing the refs can't do, and they did it.

And yhis is recency bias overpowering logic. The whrn is completely irrelevant. The last play and first play are equal. Games are a sum of all plays. You can't just pick one play that screwed the Saints and ignore other plays that screwed the Rams. Just because it is easier for you to guess what may have happened after that point doesn't give it greater value.

They aren't equal, and that's not what recency bias is anyway. The blown call isn't important because I remember it better because of when it happened in time. It's important because it happened at a point in the game after which the game was already decided, and so it demonstrably changed the outcome of a game where there should not have been another Rams possession.

Dude, if you don't care and want to watch the Superbowl, knock yourself out. I'm not watching, because I don't care about the outcome of a championship game in which the champion is picked because league officials can't follow obvious league rules. It invalidates the whole season.

t really, they'd have knealt out the clock. It's a 100% lock.

Wouldn't say 100%, for a couple of reasons.

1. Kickers do miss short field goals, even extra points since the spot was moved back. NO guarantee the Saints kicker makes the field goal, could be blocked, bad snap or just plain miss it.
2. Considering the way Payton plays (remember the onside kick in their SB win?), he could very well have kept passing, with the reasoning that a td vs. a fg would make the Rams have to score a td with little time left to win.

But it was extremely likely, no doubt. Though there is also that if the Rams db hadn't interfered, there is also no guarantee the receiver catches the ball, that's a big moment for a backup receiver.

I just don't feel that unless it's the absolute last play of the game, or if the Saints had had the lead and was just trying to be sneaky and get another td, but if it was incomplete could just kneel and run out the clock with no other plays. (I'm considering that the fumbled snap the Giants had against Philly many years ago would make the Saints absolutely not try a hand off)...

I can only speak for myself as a Cowboys fan. I don't care who wins the Super Bowl, this year. One team, I'm sick and tired of seeing in the Super Bowl and the other doesn't belong there. For those reasons, I won't waste my time watching. I think I'll use that time to take the family to dine out and see a movie.

If I watch, I'll watch for the same reason that I go to the local university's games, even though I went to a rival university in the same conference - because I like football. Now if the local team is playing some lower division team that they will probably blow out, I won't go, because watching a team get blown out is not entertaining to me unless I'm a fan of the team that does the blowing out ;)

Regardless of the botched call (or non-call, however you want to word it), both teams are very good teams, should be a good game, but again, if it turns out to be a blowout, I'll probably would still watch the game still if the Rams blow out the Pats because I don't like the Pats...

That’s where I am. I don’t mind missing, even if it’s a great game. The NFL has an obligation to do better than its doing. They got their world championship game wrong. It devalues the league. I don’t car that the Rams are actually good, too. They shouldn’t be there.

Not the Rams' fault...

Yes, the plays are equal. The magical "when it mattered" or "when the game is on the line" phrases are just flowery words with no real meaning. It's always on the line, and it always matters. Giving more value to a play merely because it is late is not logical. It defies all logic. You are not arguing from a stance of logic and reason. All those other plays that you are trying to claim are not equal are what put the game in that exact position at that time. They are all significant. You try to present yourself as someone who is above others because you are so level headed, but you're not...at all.

Yes, but saying the Rams don't belong in the SB is ignoring their entire season, other playoff win against us and some also no-calls against the Saints as well.

But I get your point...

Shhh, those other plays don't matter. Only the one at the end matters. Those other plays don't have an impact on the game. They don't affect the outcome. We are supposed to just pretend the game started with 2 minutes left. Teams can only be screwed from that point.

True, but there will never be a perfectly officiated game, like they say, you could call holding on just about every play. There's not 25 officials on the field, some calls are just going to be missed. Yes they should do better, and there's been prior calls that could have benefited from coaches or the officials being able to either challenge non-calls/ throw or take away flags after the play is over.

But don't we all complain about too many rules? Adding an additional challenge, making "judgment" calls reviewable or some such is just going to make the game longer and more complicated.

I have to have some sympathy for the refs, it's easy to critique missed calls with a viewpoint far above the field from a big-screen tv. Their view is much more limited and they have to keep a hundred things in their head, like the clock, watching to be sure coaches stay off the field, making sure they stay out of the way of the players, making sure they stay out of the way of the passed balls and remembering a thick rulebook that has multiple interpretations, all the while trying to be totally objective.

Of course like any job, some are better than the rest, and the poorly performing ones shouldn't be allowed to stay as refs. My sympathy only goes so far.

But when you think that you have to go from high school to college and be a top performing official there before you even get a shot at being an NFL rep, there's not an endless supply of candidates.

Yes they do. Rams didn't get a face mask call and settled for a field goal, if that call had been made they could have scored a td instead, so the Saints wouldn't have been able to run out the clock and kick a field goal to win had the interference been called. Could have fumbled the ball of course the next play even if they had gotten the face mask call.

The non-call was not the last play of the game, Saints still had to kick the field goal even with the penalty being accepted, and teams do miss short field goals or course...

Yep, that's my point. I was being sarcastic when saying they don't have an impact.

It's recency bias mixed with the focusing effect. People put too much stock into one play instead of the entirety of the game, and they forget (or push aside - in some cases aren't aware of) those other plays for the one that happened more recently.
