This sounds a little more radical.......lol

The only problem ( good problem some may say ) could be finding 17 neutral sites.....

Mark Murphy supports 17 games a regular-season compromise

Given the conflicting quotes attributed to Packers CEO Mark Murphy on Friday, I opted to pretend to be an actual reporter and do some actual reporting.

Short story shorter, I got Murphy on the phone to clarify his thoughts on a potentially expanded regular season.

Murphy said that he remains opposed to 18 games, a position he has taken on multiple occasions in the past. He acknowledges, however, that 17 games could work as an obvious compromise between 16 and 18. Murphy supports 17 regular-season games primarily as a way to continue to grow the game internationally, ensuring that every team would have, every year, eight true home games, eight true road games, and one neutral-site game, with most of those 16 neutral-site games played in other countries. However, Murphy was adamant that the preseason would have to drop to three games, and maybe to only two (despite the loss of revenue that would come from reducing the total number of preseason and regular-season games from 20 to 19).

Here's a crazy idea. How bout...like...leaving it the way it is? It ain't broken.
4 pre season games is lame and pointless for the most part, either add a game or two or shorten the pre season.

In fact, I'd say that 4th preseason game that all the ladies whine about these days is the most important one of them all. You're getting an extensive look at young players in a game situation that you won't get otherwise.

I'd sooner extend the preseason than shorten it. It's a valuable tool to team building and the best way to prepare your team for the season.

That's nice.

There's a point to the preseason. It's called developing and evaluating your roster as well as preparing for the regular season. If you don't like it don't watch it.

That's what it's for but I dont watch it. All I care about in tc and preseason is health.. it's not as lame as the pro bowl but nothing to get excited over.

Please. You know as well as I do that 4 games is a joke.

Out of curiosity, how many pre season games is enough in your opinion? After all, another 2 games would even further help develop and evaluate the roster, wouldn’t it? Maybe they should just make a summer league with certain stipulations.

I personally think that 16 games is a solid balance of length of season, while also maintaining the importance of every game.

I know the owners are trying to generate even more revenue and make even more money. But there are other ways to do it.

More gimmicks, stop already. We probably don't need a 16 game season, the 14 game format worked too. But I am also ok with 16. Do we really need more? I can't stress this enough. There is absolutely no good reason to extend the season to 18 games anymore than extending it to 24 games makes sense. 16 games is by far enough to determine who are the top teams in this game.

17 is ok...but we need to get rid of 2 preseason games. 2 is plenty. That should be the trade off.

Teams could accomplish the same goals in intra-squad scrimmages, not fake games with real tickets. The last thing the NFL needs is more of them.

I like the 17 game idea far far faaaaar more than the 18 game but let’s sit star players for 2 games idea.

How about 18 games with 2 bye weeks? I'd claim it's a novel idea, except that the CFL already does it. Best part? No players die as a result!

I don't get why it's the way it is.
- No contact with players prior to June
- Pre-season from June 1- August 31 (three months)
- 3 x pre-season games
- 18 game regular season
- 1 x mid-season bye per team
- 2-week winter break (Dec 2-15)
- Superbowl pushed back four weeks.

That gives players 12-13 weeks holidays which is more than any other profession I know. I get that these players need to recover but IMO recovery is better off managed by the football team anyway.

I get what you’re saying. I also think preseason is important for evaluating the backend of your roster. That being said, by the time that 4th preseason game rolls around, most coaches such have a good idea what a player is and what a player isn’t.
