The mistake is your comprehension. I'm telling you what I meant and you are still asking the same question lol.

"Lol" all day there Sally! It doesn't change the fact that you chose your words poorly. And you're clearly too immature to admit your mistake, so you try to project it into the reader. Immaturity at its finest right there, congrats.

I'm flat out asking you what is the point of taking a pay cut if a team doesn't want you on a cap friendly deal? You won't answer so may be you are the one that's having a tough time admitting your mistake?

Its already been answered creampuff. They were fine with bringing him back to compete for a roster spot on their terms? Is it that difficult for your small mind to understand?

He wasn't "making the team" like you erroneously claimed. Be a man and accept your own mistakes.

Embarrassing.

Well its no secret they screwed up receiver last year......but Hurns getting cut is that they feel they have better option available now than they did last year. Its not about how good or bad he is.

If he couldn’t produce with what little we had the first half of last season he’s not going to produce now with a much more talented receiving corp. You could see him falling down the depth chart last season after the Cooper trade. I’m not saying he’s a bad receiver but with the talent we have at the position now he wouldn’t get many opportunities. Our group of receivers look night and day better than they did last year at this time.

If we can find a decent punt returner Austin should go, too.

That's easier said than done I think. And it's not like they're paying Austin much. But I think if he misses any time with injury at all, the team will move on. He's got to be available.

If we re-sign Hurns back that would be discouraging cuz it would mean we don't trust the younger wide receivers that can make this roster.
Do we have the talent in them to be able to move away from a vet like hurns?
I don't know where all the trust in the younger guys would stem from.

We've yet to see Wilson, Davis, Johnson, Smith, or Guyton in a single padded practice.

He declined a pay cut.

Good riddance. He wasn't worth that money even before the injury. Too slow. Can't get separation.

I mean this is a part of the NFL. But then fans wonder why guys like Zeke are holding out.
Completely different situations.

Hurns was brought into a terrible WR corps and paid to be at worst a solid #2. One year later he's at best a #4 (assuming he's fully healthy) and on most teams he would be a rotational piece.

Players that feel they are severely underpaid/undervalued hold out. Hurns is neither and to be honest Zeke (which you mentioned) is top 3 for his position in both total guaranteed and fully guaranteed money........ (he has no leverage to hold out this year as well).

At the end of the day you actually have to perform to both your contract and the contract you want (Hurns performed to NEITHER of those two). Holding out only works when you perform. If Hurns got over 1,000 yards last season and refused to play this year without a long term deal or a raise this year then that's fine.

Him playing like crap and getting injured isn't validation for players holding out......

Wow that's a low offer.
Slater was almost right, he was set to make $6.25M with $1.25M already guaranteed.

So essentially we said take a $775K contract, or a $4.25M paycut, or try to beat it.

Needless to say it's understandable why Hurns would test the open market. I would have have liked him back at $2.75M-$3M CAP hit.

Basically......... they didn’t really want or need him so throw out a low ball offer and if he takes it great. If he doesn’t they probably don’t really care.

I was fine with his signing but with Cooper here now, Gallup showing enough to be a good #2 and Cobb being a better slot option, Hurns was largely expendable unless he agreed to play for cheap.

told you so

Cedrick Wilson is now the only natural XWR on the squad.

Cooper, Gallup, Cobb, Wilson, and 2 ? marks.

Considering the ?s are Austin, Brown, Davis, Guyton, and Johnson ... probably speed wins.

You have GOT to learn how the salary cap works, because this isn't it at all.

But yes, this cut will help extend Dak and Cooper.
I've explained this to him 5x and he still doesn't get it. You can't complain about 3.8 base when the reason you have a 3.8 base is because 65% of your contract was paid in cash before you EVER had a real NFL practice...... (he literally had no idea how contracts work)

I'll let you continue to do the heavy lifting then.

If it's a lost cause then so be it.

Nah i'm not quoting him anymore. Supposedly getting top 3 at your position in both total guaranteed and fully guaranteed money means "cowboys aren't paying zeke"

Also frees up some cap to get some of these deals done.

I blame Zeke and his supposed hold out for this move....Now....Jerry just enabled a more selfish attitude...especially if he gets his big fat contract extension.

Zeke better have his butt in camp now.....

I guess the bright side of the story...Cedrick Wilson approves

Releasing him was fine. I'm all for it. I just think the timing of it is bad business and could impact how future free agents view the Cowboys when we did Dez dirty with a late release and we waited just before camp to cut Hurns.
I kinda think releasing him before training camp gives him a little more opportunity to catch on with another team. I think bringing him to training camp, chancing getting hurt and then cutting him at the final cuts would make it more difficult for him to get another job.
