Luke Gifford was a model of hard work, consistency and leadership. Not the most naturally-gifted or athletic, but you know his motor could out work a lot of people on the field. After playing a reserve role his first two seasons, the linebacker from Lincoln (Southeast) became a key starter his final two seasons.
Gifford was the glue of the Huskers and was key for getting players to buy into Frost and his new culture. His leadership and no-quit attitude was a huge part of getting this team to stick through the 0-6 start.

Gifford managed to play in all 12 games in 2018, earning a team captaincy and garnering honorable mention All-Big Ten notice with 62 stops and team highs in tackles for loss (13) and sacks (5.5).

On what position NFL coaches project him to play:

"In a 3-4, playing the SAM backer, which would be similar to what I've been doing the last couple years. But a lot of teams have talked to me about playing inside a little bit in a 4-3, which is something I feel like I could do, it's just been a while. I haven't really done much of that since Coach Bray and Coach (Mark) Banker was the D-coordinator. It's definitely something I could do, but I think being in a 3-4 and playing outside. And then one of the biggest things is being able to play multiple positions. If you can play multiple positions, then a lot of times you can hold a roster spot because you're more valuable than another guy might be, and that'll be another big thing for me."

May push March-Lillard if he excels at ST's, and to save a small amount on the salary cap.

He's more of a PS guy. Could sneak his way onto the 53 especially if there is a long term injury.

In a lot of 53-man roster projections has the Cowboys going with only 6 linebackers but as far as I remember weve always went with seven linebackers on the projection
We had seven linebackers on last year's roster
And I tend to believe we will go with 7 LBs again.

2 jaylon
3 lee
4 Thomas
5 Marcus liddard
6 Covington
7 Gifford??

They've always kept 7 LBs on cut day since they went back to the 4-3 with the exception of the year Rolando McClain was suspended for 4 games. McClain was the 7th in that situation but wasn't on the 53 while suspended. They kept 7 once he returned.

6-4 ...... 256 ...... Leighton Vander Esch
6-2 ...... 245 ...... Jaylon Smith
6-2 ...... 245 ...... Sean Lee
6-1 ...... 232 ...... Joe Thomas

6-0 ...... 222 ...... Justin March-Lillard
6-2 ...... 245 ...... Chris Covington
6-3 ...... 243 ...... Luke Gifford
6-2 ...... 230 ...... Kyle Queiro
6-2 ...... 224 ...... Nate Hall
6-0 ...... 225 ...... Andrew Dowell

That's funny about not being athletically gifted considering his measurable(s) are very good.

In context that was with regards to him playing as an outside pass rusher (3-4 OLB) which he did in college.

As a 4-3 LB his measurable(s) are ideal.

The Cowboys in the past few years really like to draft players that were playing out of position in college due to scheme issues.

Really good measurables, fitting the size requirements DAL has started to lean towards in there LB template (6'2 245). I remember being unimpressed by his game post draft tho.

Will see what Gif does in preseason, and seems like he'll get the opportunity.
