For those of you who hate Romo or Dak, what's your true motive in doing so?

In this thread, I would like to ask that we avoid discussing things like stats, Super Bowls, playoff wins, QB rating, turnovers, efficiency on third down or so forth - we've already done those topics dozens of times before already. Whether Romo/Dak is clutch or not, good or bad, has been done to death. So no need to talk about that. We don't need to talk about the bobbled snap in Seattle or Dak's deep ball.

What I do want to talk about is this: Let's just address the elephant in the room. There is a certain segment of the Cowboys fanbase that quite openly hates Romo or Dak, and takes a personal vested interest in seeing to it that Romo's career is perceived as negatively as possible, or wants Dak to fail.

So - for those of you who do (and we all already know some posters who fit one of those descriptions - I won't name them by name, but you and we know who you are) - what's your real motive in this? Do you, as a Romo fan, feel that trashing Dak somehow elevates Romo? Do you, a Dak fan, feel that trashing Romo somehow elevates Dak?

What are your real motives? No need to be shy, let's hear them. I'm not starting this thread to be judgmental, I really do want to see what people's honest motives are here.

Let's define the word "hate".

Do you mean "hate" Romo and Dak as people? Or do you mean "hate" Romo and Dak in how they played QB?

Those are two wildly different ways to not like a player.

Yeah I don't get this either. If I didn't want Prescott as our QB and EVERYTHING I said about him was critical it still wouldn't mean i hated the guy.

I think people throw that word around too loosely around here.

It's got to be the latter of the 2. I don't really know either one. Why would anyone make this personal?

Oh, I liked both of them so I won't be chiming in.

Aikman has said that what fans want most is hope and I would argue that those most “hateful” of Romo and/ Dak simply lacked hope with them at the helm. They may make “factual” arguments about why he “isn’t the answer” but they just want to feel hope that we could win the big one.

Same thing happened to Ware to a lesser extent — we lose and it was usually blaming Ware for not getting a final drive sack even though he was triple teamed.

Dak is good enough to win with the right team. Does a $30M+ salary allow us to field the right team, I’m less sure.

I don’t “hate” either

My problem is that I’m a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and I want them to play in and win SBs and I’m not a fan of mediocrity and I don’t think Dak has the latent to do that with Garrett as HC.

It's hilarious if you actually think the people really, really hating Dak and/or Romo do it based only on how they played football. The reactions they get from some people are all out of proportion to their actions on the gridiron. Nobody compares Dak Prescott to Nathan Peterman because they're just making rational observations.

That said nobody is going to be honest about this, either.

You'll never get an honest answer from the vast majority of Dak (or Romo) haters.

As someone who’s rooted for every Cowboys QB who has been under center since Aikman - because, get this, I’m a COWBOYS fan - it’s always funny to me when a fan can’t bring himself to root for his favorite team’s QB.

Seems like it’d be a miserable way to live as an NFL fan, but to each their own.

Pretty obvious that there’s a certain segment of Dak haters who will never like Dak, no matter how much success he has. He could win 5 Super Bowls but it’ll always be, “any QB could do what he did with this great supporting cast!”

My opinion: Dak doesn’t “look the part” in their eyes. They have a mental image of what the Dallas Cowboys QB should look like, play like, sound like, etc.

In short, they’re complete scumbags whose opinions, frankly, don’t matter.

To clarify: this “certain segment” I’m referring to is a small minority of the overall database of Dak’s haters. Most Dak haters would gladly get on board if he became the next Russell Wilson and won a Super Bowl.

But I’m absolutely certain that there would still be SOME fans who would still dislike Dak as the Cowboys QB no matter what.

I actually really like Dak as a guy. My problem is this:

I thought Romo was a 6-8th best QB in the league that got labeled as a loser because of a lack of team success and optics. (Technically, he was even higher based on numbers alone.)

I think Dak is a 12-14th best QB in the league that has been labeled a winner because he’s had some team success early on in his career.

I feel like this is a completely reasonable viewpoint but those of us that try to express it are labeled as “Dak haters.”

Romo haters hate people who like Tony. Dak haters hate people who like Dak. I like both of them. I think Romo is a way better QB then Dak, but I also think Dak is capable of driving a bus to the finish line. The bus needs to be in good shape though.
