For us to get Lincoln Reilly this team would have to collapse to 3-13 and Garrett would have to lose the team

I Wish it would happen, but its too much of a dream. Garrett has more lives that 50 cats combined.

Garrett's fate rides, to a fair degree, with how the team does. If they win the division again, I doubt he gets replaced, even though some say he has to get to the NFC Championship. I think that's just fans/media putting their own restriction on it, and doesn't necessarily reflect how Jerry looks at it.

If we are 8-8 or worse (which I very much doubt) I think Garrett's job is in serious jeopardy. Something in between (2nd place & wildcard?) is a crap shoot.

Every time I see something on TV about Lincoln Riley the reporter spouts out future coach of the Dallas Cowboys. It gets my conspiracy theory juices flowing...

Exhibit #1: Garrett is a lame duck coach..
Exhibit #2: Dak is a lame duck QB. Lincoln might not want him..
Exhibit #3: Zeke in Cabo eating Fish Tacos and chasing Senoritas.. Lincoln thinks Rb's are disposable
Exhibit #4: Young Defense. Richards got this taken care off
Exhibit #5: Plenty cap space... For Lincoln to shape the offense..

- Pipe dreams if you think Riley will not be as lame a duck as Garrett with the Jones still running the show.
- even more smoke if you think this management is going to turn away from commitment to Dak for the sake of Riley.
- if Dak isn't Riley's type, then team will consider Riley not the cowboys type.
- we don't even know if Richard is going to even be here as a DC, with the likely HC offers he'll have coming his way next year
- if zeke is disposable for Riley, although reason not to hire him as HC.
- what would be the difference from Riley that's any different from the Chip Kelly's of the world ?

Jerry will pull something like what he did with Terry Donahue and offer him 1/5 of what he's currently making.

And probably make him use a time clock.

I believe they have one eye on Riley and are willing to let this season play out so they don't saddle him or the next coach with unwanted players/contracts. This isn't tinfoil stuff, it's a billion dollar company having a backup plan for a coach who isn't under contract next season...duh.

Absolutely. Great post.

counter fact., they offered all 3 top 5 money, the players turned it down.. they came back and offered Zeke top 2money, the player turned it down.. their plan is to have all 3signed and play 2019 with a full deck.. the players are holding this up, not backup plan at all..

flawed plan would be Lincoln saying NO... theres no guarantee he would even come here..

when's the last good coach thats coached here, big name? Big Bill at the end ready to retire..a plans only good as its execution and you counting apn a person under contract at great program to WANT to come coach here..

heck go grab Dabo or Nick lol sure they will come running..:)

Garrett's lost the team a few times. It didn't matter.

If Jerry wants to keep him he will.

The one positive that Garrett has accomplished is that the team has always bought into his coaching. I have never seen mention of Garrett accused of losing his players.

He's O dependent and is a coach in a conference with jokes for D's, he's another Kingsbury entering the NFL. He's the beneficiary of Stoop's recruiting and if he coached in the SEC or Big 10, he wouldn't even be on the NFL radar.

Any team that hires him as HC, better have him in a dual role and a strong DC. He will go the way of Chip Kelly and back to the college ranks within 3 years. Unless he works for the Cowboys and Booger will keep him because he does have fun offenses to watch and it is all about that entertainment factor.

 Have you seen his recruits the last 2 years? I smell a Longhorns fan...

Regardless, Id be shocked if he came to Dallas by next season.

This Lincoln Reilly obsession is ridiculous, it’s like when everyone was drooling over Shaw after a few years. Riley inherited a great team with a great recruiting pipeline. His defense has been crap. His offense may be good but again look at what he inherited, and more importantly look at his competition. The Big 12 has the worst defenses in the country, every game they play are video game scores.

I understand why a lot of people are done with JG but Riley hasn’t done much to prove he can be a HC in the NFL IMO.

exactly, well said. For those reasons, I am out on this idea. The NFL is about relationships that are built over time...fits. Its very hard to come in here and reinvent the wheel. Its throwing the baby out with the bathwater IMO..if we do this.

Anyone but Garrett but Riley? How about Oklahoma learns how to play defense under the guy. There are 50 coaches I would rather have.

Maybe as OC if Moore flops, but I doubt Jerry gives up that quickly on Moore...

the Lincoln Riley obsession is a bit creepy and bizarre if you think about it. Its almost cult like.

Exactly. I don’t see it at all. If you need a college coach how about Dabo or Harbaugh or Shaw. The list goes on. Riley is not ready for prime time.
