Jameill Showers has done quite well for himself in Dallas - especially as a player who never made the 53-man team. Showers had no practice squad eligibility left in 2019. But since he was waived/injured, and no one claimed him, he reverts to the Cowboys Injured Reserve list, and will get paid $378K this year. Not bad. That injury in preseason game #4 is paying off for him.

Here is the 5 year history of his pay in Dallas:
2015 - $51,176
2016 - $117,300
2017 - $108,000
2018 - $363,000 (on injured reserve)
2019 - $378,000 (on injured reserve)
Total - $1,017,476 - an average of over $200K per year.

He could even be brought back for a 6th offseason next year, as the Cowboys still own his rights as an Exclusive Rights Free Agent.

The Cowboys have been beddy, beddy good to Jameill...

Yeah I thought the same thing when going down, maybe he writhed in pain as he thought he could buy himself another year in camp on the 90 man roster... who knows, Heath may finally be gone by that point

though I don't know if tearing out your whole knee and 9 months of rehab for that is worth that little money... hmm, anyone know if the Cowboys or NFL pay for that? Or are they independent contractors who have to pay their own costs out of pocket?

Not to mention. I could easily see them hiring him onto the coaching training staff, if Showers wants. Since he is so well liked in the organization.

Jerry is a maligned GM (for good reason). But by all accounts he is a loyal and caring boss.

Jameill is going to be just fine.

he'll be on the camp roster next summer as a safety... but after that, yes.

I could only wish for that kind of career. Not very good but just enough to have good money in the bank.

Plus NFL players qualify for retirement benefits with four years experience.

He is like a fixture. Like a piece of luggage.

He will be a member of the staff soon enough.

They will announce he is the head go-fer in charge of coffee and you will be all like, hey, I remember that guy.

He gave it all he had. Wish him the best.

I look at it this way, if Showers emulated an opposing safety well enough in practice that we made one more big play on offense, its worth it. The Cowboys are a multi-billion dollar team, a million dollars for any small edge is worth it.

Showers and Lee will be on the coaching staff next year in some capacity is my guess.
