Now we unleash the real defense!

We will see. As long as they keep those points allowed down, it's all good.

Jaylen said after the game today when asked, that the defense has been "average" this season. Not to their standard.

I think the defense will play better.

But jesus, this defense has allowed 17, 21 and 6 points in 3 games, with 14 of those points literally coming in prevent 4th quarter "let 'em score if it moves the clock" mode.

I don't care who that's against, its not BAD. So basically we've allowed 30 points TOTAL in 3 games when the games weren't already decided. Against ANY NFL teams that is decent.

As much as people like to talk about this defense not playing well - here's some facts:

1.) This team has allowed 2 meaningful touchdowns the whole season (one in the first quarter to the Giants and one in the first quarter to the Commanders)

2.) They have held 3 professional football teams to 7 for 35 on 3rd down this season (a major reason they're 3-0; in my opinion)

3.) Take away that 60 yard run on the 2nd play of the season by Barkley and you can't run on this team. By the way Xavier woods made him fumble on the play before this big run (1st play of the season).

4.) I haven't really seen any missed tackles

5.) DLaw really hasn't played a lot

6.) Quinn is here now and looked rusty in the first half but looked good in the second half - if he plays to his potential, this line is really solid & maybe we get Randy Gregory back as well.

7.) They haven't really needed to really show anything exotic on defense or put a ton of pressure on QBs because of how dominant the offense has been. I think this defense is fully capable of kicking it into another gear when they need to & people are overreacting.

8.) I hope I'm not wrong lol

Quite frankly, the defense looked completely ordinary the 1st half today. A good QB would have lit them up to the tune of 20-21 points by halftime.

Absolutely. If not for the Dolphins own miscues, the Cowboys should have been down at halftime. It was truly a tale of two halves yesterday. Both the offense and defense looked totally different after halftime.

Would love a repeat of last years dominating defensive game against the Saints. Are they able? I hope so.

Yeah, we have all been waiting for the defense to return to anything resembling that game's defensive performance. It's like they totally peaked there and have yet to return.

It never returned to form even during the winning up through the playoffs last year but I hope they can re capture the magic some how for the remainder of this season starting Sunday night.

That’s what makes no sense.

Nothing has changed. If anything, they’ve added players like Quinn and DLaw isn’t playing with a torn shoulder.

If anyone has an educated guess I’d love to hear it.

Its a Bend But Don't Break defense.

We mostly play 4-2-5.

Some 4-3-4. Not a lot.

Its a combo of off man/press and man/zone.

The 4 man DL applies most of the pass rush.

Everyone else is back in coverage.

The bend don't break defense suited our conservative play-calling last year. I really hope we start to get aggressive. Turnovers can take us over the top.

Marinelli has been playing BBDB for years now.

People complain, for good reason, about the lack of an aggressive pass rush, lack of ints, lack of sacks, etc. etc. etc

He plays it safe.

Make the other team drive the field.

Make them kick FG's.

Its works vs weaker teams.

Not so much vs Rodgers and tier 1/2 QB's.

The Saints game last season was when we found out how good this defense could be. They didn't hold up in the playoffs against the Rams and they haven't been the same since. It would be nice for our defense to find itself once again during the Saints game. How apropos would that be?

There sure are a lot of cranky people here, although, I admit, I have my share of anxiety about the next two games. I have a feeling that the Saints will come out with some kind of adjustments not to repeat last year's shellacking. Part of me wonders if the defense didn't get exposed in last year's playoff against the Rams. They ran right over us, and we seem to be giving up too many runs straight up the middle. Frankly, we're too talented for that.

A lot of our success in both games is going to depend on our ability to maintain possession. That means a lot of running and play action, which is fine.
