Just take a look: That 1992 team could have received a lot of unwarranted comments from some people after game 4.

First. Compare 1992 with 2019:

1st 4 games of 1992:
W Commanders 23-10
W @NY Giants 34-28
W Phoenix Cardinals 31-20
L Eagles 7-31

3-1 Record

1st 4 games of 2019
W NY Giants 35-17
W @ Commanders 31-21
W Dolphins 31-6
L Saints 10-12

3-1 Record

Similarities: Points For/Against through the 1st 4 games:
1992: 95 -89
2019: 107-56

Statistical result: Our offense is better in 2019 through the first 4 games. Our Defense is better in 2019 through the first 4 games.

Some player comparisons from game 4:

Game 4 QB comparisons:

Our "fourth year" QBs Aikman and Dak in Game 4:
1992: Aikman 19/38 256 Yards Passing 1 TD 3 Ints
2019 : Dak 22/33 223 Yards 0 TD 1 INT

Result: In hindsight. It was of great benefit to NOT run Aikman out of town after a bad game 4.

Game 4 RB Comparisons:

1992: Emmitt 16-67 0 TDs : 5 Yards Receiving Yards (72 Yards from scrimmage)
2019: Zeke 18-35 Yards 1 TD : 30 Yards receiving (65 Yards from scrimmage)

Result: This is very equal. Zeke had 6 more points on the scoreboard. Emmitt had 6 more yards.

Game 4 Defense Comparison:

1992: Dallas Defense allowed 266 Yards from Scrimmage. D had 2 Sacks 1 Turnover
2019: Dallas Defense allowed 266 Yards from Scrimmage. (not a typo/same yards allowed). D had 5 Sacks 1 Turnover

Result: Our 2019 D was better is game 4 than the 1992 team.

***It should be noted that in 1992 our D turned a huge corner in game 5. They allowed only 67 total yards and had 7 sacks. On offense: Aikman through 2 INTs and 0 TDs. Emmitt had less than 100 yards rushing. etc.

Our entire team came together in the 1992 SEASON. They later beat that "game 4 opponent" in the first game of the playoffs by a large margin. Then went on to win the Super Bowl.

***Overall Result: The sky is not falling.***

Perhaps, the star is rising for our 30th anniversary since Jerry bought this team in 1989.

I am still sticking to my guns. These 2019 Cowboys will win the Super Bowl!

OMG just stop, this team is in no way close to the 90s team.

Perhaps look at the meaning of the original thread. It is about the 2019 Cowboys.

If this was 1992 at this point of the season. Some of the discussions may be:

Our Defense can hold opponents in yardage. But there are not enough splash plays.
Aikman had 3 ints and only 1 TD? What is he our 8 million dollar man for?
Emmitt only had around 60 yards rushing? We should have picked up Barry Sanders instead of Aikman in 1989. Or, our O-Line is junk.
Our Defense gave up 27 points. Time to start over.

So if you look at the original thread: The meaning is:

One game is not a season. A few bumps don't make an entire season. All players have a bad game from time to time.

Look at that 1992 team. They had to overcome obstacles. That TEAM came together and had to overcome several things to win the Superbowl.

Most importantly: The sky isn't falling (for those who think it is).

So enjoy this 2019 team. You just never know.

In all fairness, the 1992 Cowboys first 2 games were against the last 2 SB winners.

The Phoenix Cardinals was the only easy game out of the first 4.

As Cowboys fans we knew 1992 was going to be a good year for 4 reasons:

1. Steady improvement each year:

From 1-15 to 7-9 to 11-5 with wildcard playoff win

2. Upgraded the pass rush with Charles Haley trade

3. Defeated the last 2 SB winners in the first 2 games. Game 4 was a dissapointment but got payback later in the season and in the playoffs.

4. Had real coaches with Jimmy Johnson and others versus the mediocre ones now.

That ‘92 team was considered one of the best teams to put on an NFL uniform and they played like it.

The thing is Garrett still thinks it’s 1992.

Yeah, but Garrett isn't Jimmy Johnson. He's more like a participation trophy kind of coach. Jimmy Johnson made the players super uncomfortable when they lost a game. Garrett claps.

Look I get it, but we have been on the upswing given last year and I’ll give Moore the benefit of the doubt. Like I said, Sunday will show us a lot of this team and whether the outlook is strong or another luke warm season....if they can rebound with a strong win I think this team has the ability.

It might not have been the worst thing for them to taste the string of defeat early, don’t want them to be too over confident and need to stay hungry and focused

Garrett does not resemble much from 1992.

He is conservative versus Jimmy's aggressiveness.

Jimmy exploited teams' weaknesses while JG tries to exploit teams' strengths. I.e., ran heavily against the Saints instead of passing.

Jimmy makes adjustments while JG keeps the same failing plans and blame failure on lack of execution.

Jimmy plays to win while JG plays not to lose.

'92 Cowboys offense was not as predictable as JG's conservative offense.

Also, '92 Cowboys offense had numerous running plays for Emmitt instead of running straight up the middle with Zeke.

This season Dallas hasn't faced the past 2 Superbowl champs..... Yet. They are coming though, so we can revisit this then

Interesting take as I was just contemplating this myself...although I was asking the question of whether this season would be like 1992 or 1999...in other words, was this a bump in the road or us getting exposed and rest of league takes notice?

What psychogical mechanism causes people to look for spurious parallells is the past? I know there is a name for it. Someone could just as easily cite the 2008 team as a parallell.
