Something happens to some fans with a team with repetitive behavior and some are purely results driven for the season, it is all about the destination, the journey is inconsequential. And there is no good or bad to it, it's just how you view the season.

If the Cowboys were to make the playoffs, and right now it looks like winning the division is the only way they would, and they were to lose out in that first round, would you rather they didn't make it at all?

Would the disappointment and frustration of that be to the point you'd rather just have the season end after 16 games?

Those are your only two choices, none of that "anything can happen in the playoffs", the choice is simple. End the season after 16 or end it after 17 games?

There aren't only 2 choices though. So yea give me playoffs because...anything can happen.

If you want me to really answer the most hypothetical question ever because this question is reaching then absolutely make the playoffs. I only get to root for my team 16 days in a calender year. Why would I not want to do it 17 times instead? I enjoy watching the Cowboys play football. That's why I'm here posting about them.

I mean, it's just one more week if they get knocked out in the first round. In the grand scheme of life, there are worse things than having three hours to watch you favorite team one more time before the season is over.

To quote another poster. "Take this train as far as it'll go, baby." If all anyone ever wants is superbowl or bust and believe we have no chance at anypoint in the season then stop watching and go about your business. You are just weighing down the rest of us who love to see the games played and wish/hope for the best and to go as far as possible every year. Disclaimer(just a personal opinion of no worth to any one but lil ol me)

My first thought. We are not making the Superbowl so give me the higher draft pick. But then I thought, do they even know what to do with that higher draft pick. It may only be five spots up anyway, so give me the playoffs.

I think more than the making the playoffs and being one-and-done is the middle of the pack draft pick we will get and watching Marinelli once again talk Jerry into picking up a project that he can "coach up"

We are Pavlov's dogs. The Cowboys have been (w)ringing the disappointment bell for years and we are responding to it instinctively now. Every spring we hear how great the draft was. Summer we hear about how great Maliek Collins, or someone else looks, then the games start and we realize this is going to be harder than we thought. Every other year they make the playoffs and in between finish with a mediocre record. Everyone in my generation got sick of hearing "Crimson and Clover" on the radio after a while. But we are not yet sick of the tune Jerry plays. His springtime optimism does not match the realism of the Cowboys performances on Sundays. By January we expect Dallas to go to the playoffs and lose the first game. Why should we think differently?

When the playoffs begin we look at 22 matchups on both sides of the ball and we see the Cowboys advantage, partly because the Cowboys starting 22 are really good and partly because we are like Jerry even if just a little. But unlike Jerry, we see a huge mismatch at the H/C spot and in the playoffs that one spot is much more significant than it is for those divisional rivalries.

I have been a Cowboys fan since before Don Meredith was running around the Cowboys backfield. I have seen some really horrible Cowboys players and teams. I read Tom Landry's book and did a lot of reading about Jimmy Johnson. No Cowboys coach, including Bill Parcels, can match wits with Landry and Johnson. Jerry doesn't even try to find a coach like that anymore. Garrett cannot compete with the better coaches in the league come playoff time. We all know that and its why we expect Dallas to be unprepared and make stupid mistakes in January.

Having said that, I do think the Cowboys are drafting better and have loosened their attitude towards trading for star players and signing quality depth. We are getting to the point where Jerry's comment that "anyone can coach this team to a Super Bowl" may be true, with the exception of Jason Garrett. This is a really good Cowboys team when healthy. If Jerry ever hires a good HC, I believe he can take us to a Super Bowl in his first year.

Playoff experience is valuable, especially to a young team.

Its about what the minor success of making the playoffs two seasons in a row will condition the Jones Boyz to do going forward. It would almost certainly make them double down on their Garrettism.

You always want to be in the playoffs. If you get hot in December truly anything can happen.

The only advantage I can see about the Cowboys not making the playoffs this year is that means they get a new head coach.
