For all he did for the cowboys I think they gave up on him too fast.

Blame Jerry, Garrett, or both. He got injured and someone tried to rush him back too fast. When he didn't do well, because he wasn't fully recovered, they tossed him aside. And then this season they hang on to Maher for far too long.

Team management at its finest....

Thank you, Jerry. Not buying it, though. He was struggling around the time he was cut
He was injured at the time of the cut.
There was 100% certainty he was going to recover.
I knew the day he was cut it was a salary cap move and one that would bite us in the end.

Cutting Bailey was a salary cap move. Not a performance move.
I think it was both. At the time, his performance wasn't significantly better than Brett to warrant his pay differential.

Hindsight being 20/20, they probably should've hung on to him. But the same could be said if they'd hung on too long and he never got over the yips. The narrative would then be there goes Jerry's loyalty to players over the team.

Cutting Bailey was a salary cap move. Not a performance move.

It was a bit of both IMO. He was getting paid far too much for how he was playing, and he was playing poorly. Back-to-back seasons of decline (84.4 percent in 2016 and 75.0 percent in 2017) suggested that he might be washed up. That he followed up those seasons with another 75 percenter in Minnesota seemed to confirm it. Good for him that he bounced back, but that wasn't guaranteed.

I'd love to be allowed to bump old threads because the revisionist history being spewed here by some is comical. :muttley:

Let's just say the chorus was far more "he's done" than "never should've let him go" at the time. Much more.

Never should have released him when they did. It was a dumb move.

I hated to see it, but I thought it was the correct move. Now I see I was wrong. This is a new feeling for me that I do not like, I don't know how some of y'all do it.
