One thing the Cowboys coaching staff may need is the Jimmy Johnson style of Psychology

I was thinking of placing this in the Cowboys History Zone. But I believe this fits in to some of the "coaching threads".

But if anyone listens to the master of Football Psychology. This is a great watch (or listen). Even if you just scrub to some of the things Jimmy Johnson has said. Jimmy has his degree in psychology and he is a master of it IMO.

Some of my favorite one liners starting at 9:55:

It's not always just about being an overbearing coach:

Positive Psychology. Great watch if you have the time.

Mean while Garrett came out with a video of his own on his coaching mantra. The video was about 10 seconds long and he stated " we will watch film, learn from it and get better. It is a process".

but he says, “in motivating people I don’t believe in cliches”

pretty much the anti-Garrett who ONLY believes in cliches

I do agree. JG does overuse a few phrases. But if he used the CORRECT phrases, I believe he could install motivation. If not, have Al Pacino give the "Any Given Sunday inch-by-inch" speech before the game :)

For example:

JG: "It's a process"; "We have to get better"; "We have some people injured" etc

Jimmy: We WILL get to the playoffs (BEORE the 1991 season. Substantiation in the original video at 9:50). Regardless of injuries. Or, "Put in in 3 inch headlines-WE WILL WIN" (Also in vid above).

Garrett could make that one simple change right now. It could make a world of difference this season and for his tenure. We have the talent. Note that I am NOT a Garrett basher at all.

Basically speak positive to someone about their strengths. And, with human nature they thrive.

If one continues to speak negatively to someone, they believe they are not any good. And then they usually continue to fail.

It's just the way the mind works. The mind controls the entire body. Especially for youngins' such as on this Dallas Cowboys team.

That's why I'm O.K. with reporters not speaking to players in the locker room. Some of them will bring up negative, negative and more negative to these players.

My 2 cents.

That's been missing for 25 years

No kidding. Heck, as a good father, I raised my kids up as Cowboys fans! I didn't think I would put them through a quarter of a century of disappointment. Thankfully, neither one is nearing 25 though. That's the hope I have left for my kids. I want them to witness a Cowboys SB Victory. It's a sweet feeling!

You really need to watch Urban Meyer use psychology on his players during meetings it's amazing.. He is as close as it gets to Jimmy.

not really

the difference between jimmy and Garrett is not in what was said or how it was said

cliches “work” when they are followed by real action and tangible results

that is the difference between every good HC and moron Garrett

all talk and no action or results

I never had a chance to look at him yet.

Thanks for the info, and I will.

But the ongoing problem (And I like the Jones')

But this is a fact:

The Jones' parted ways with 4 SB Winning coaches. Tom Landry, Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer and Bill Parcells

However and why is not my business. It could have been mutual decisions. But it isn't a winning formula to do that. Again, I like the Jones' but it is a fact.

So are there any coaches that can really thrive when players may not even know who to answer to?

It's no different than any other family raising kids. Mom says no...Dad says yes. So who do the kids listen to?

It creates too much noise and confusion for these players. My opinion is answer to the head coach !

Never ignore the small details

I agree to disagree. But I agree in part. lmao

What I mean is if someone is really good at something. Tell them they are great at it. They get better.

If someone has something to work on (not so good at something else) let them know directly in a positive way and help them work on what they need to improve upon. The end result is they will at least turn a negative into a positive. It could take time but usually they turn their weakness into a good. Maybe even into a GREAT!

Here is the thing and also a fact, no coach stays on forever and eventually leaves or gets fired. Jerry has shown he will hire a disciplinarian, so my money says he will do it again, and especially now that he is literally the laughing stock of the free sports world.

Please watch this video-

I doubt Jerry hires a guy who like this. A guy like this typically wants FO out of the coaching spectrum. Coaches will never be feared when an owner is sitting there meddling around.

Good Vid. Thanks just watched it.

That is what Jimmy did. Churned the roster, wanted to see all 11 guys around the ball etc.

Jimmy made 47 trades in 4 years. So nobody can tell me these Cowboys can't do it the era of Free Agency. Even though I still despise Free Agency LOL

Peter King claims in this video that Jimmy Johnson has an IQ of 149. A quick google search says it is 162. Did he take another IQ test, or is the reporter just throwing random numbers out there?

Then the string was fully into his back and Jerry had to pull it again.
