Why do you think no decision has been announced yet?

I thought it would be fun to let everyone guess at why they think no decision has been made yet.

My theory is that *IF* the Cowboys are indeed not re-signing Garrett, the guy they want is on the staff of a playoff team, likely a highly seeded team with a bye week, so they know they can let Garrett finish out his contract and avoid actually "firing" him while still going after the guy they want once that happens.

What is your guess?

Jerry wanted to keep the Cowboys in the news after not making the playoffs. To be honest. I think that they believed they were making the playoffs and had no plan B.

If they have their eye on a playoff coach then announcing the firing of Garrett has nothing to do with that one way or another. That would not preclude them from firing Garrett and waiting on the playoff coach as no other team could sign said coach anyway.

I'm saying they don't want to "fire" him because he's like family to them. By letting him finish out his contract, they can always say they never "fired" him. I'm not saying they are holding on to him in case they don't get someone else.

this is basically whats happened

they mutually decided to not announce the departure until the 14th where they both can say it was a mutual and amicable breakup..it makes sense no need to say we fired our Hc when his deal ends the in 10days..

However enough players and media have heard hes not being resigned says hes gone..

Couldn't they say (after all the drawn out sentimental stuff) that as of January 14th we will begin a new journey and go in a different direction or something along those lines?

Jerry doesn't know what to say. He has egg on his face. Garrett was his pet project and it failed.
When has Jerry been at a loss for words or been too embarrassed to speak? He'll speak even if it's gibberish

Besides, surely nobody thinks Jerry doesn't know that the media and fans will be aware if he doesn't re-sign Garrett, and that Jerry expects everyone to just miss that if he doesn't say anything.

He probably just doesn't feel the need to say anything right now. Letting Garrett's contract expire doesn't require any announcement, it just happens. He may let it happen like that, or at some point he may say they have decided not to renew Garrett. It's not really complicated to decide what to say.

What is your guess?

The word whispered to Werder was an attempt to get JG to weaken and give in to Joneses proposal whatever it is. And now we're just waiting to see if it has that affect

Simple.

Incompetence. The same incompetence that has led us to the last two decades where we have 5 playoff wins in 20 years.

I don't think Jerry has a clue how to handle situations like this properly. Or worse, he thinks he's smarter than everyone else here.

I think there also exists the possibility that Jerry still doesn't know what to do.

There is no reason to fire him, his contract is expiring
Jerry likes being in the news
Jerry could easily already had back door conversations with next coach. Even those on playoff teams

Jerry is just coming out of his New Year’s Eve stupor. Getting the cobwebs out and rehydrating. I doubt he has a PC but there’ll probably be a press release stating Garrett’s contact will not be renewed.

My guess is that they're getting all the information out of Garrett as they can. His contract is up, it's not a situation where he's to be fired or not.

What information? He claps and likes to show highlight reels to motivate the players because he lacks the skills to do it on his own. What on earth could anyone learn from the turd?
