Should I Be Worried About GB's Success Right After McCarthy Is Fired?

I think the Packers are the most overrated team in the playoffs this year.

Me too. The new predictions/odds of the remaining 4 teams to win the SB give GB a 9% chance. So we aren't the only ones thinking that. They are more lucky than good. Let's see if their luck holds out.

That whole time we heard from Rodgers is being held back by McCarthy. Soon after he is fired, they are back in the NFC championship with a coach with no real experience. I don't pretend to know the ins and outs of their break up but the fact is, they are back to the top of the NFC right after he left.

And I was a big fan of the hire fyi.

It's a legitimate point and you're not the only one it occured to, I had the same thought.

GB misses playoffs twice in 3 years (yes, I know Rodgers was hurt for a portion of 2017). But A Rod was there for all of 2018. Completed over 63% of his passes, for about 4500 yards, and only threw 2 INT all year. That's it. 2 INT. Yet GB went 6-9-1. Something was wrong there and it didn't appear to be Rodgers.

McCarthy Fired, 13-3 and 1 game away from the Super Bowl.

Optically, it doesn't look good......

I'll ask OP this.......you think the Chiefs worry about the Eagles winning the Super Bowl after Andy Reid was hired? Mike's damn good coach......as I've said before what more you guys want. His resume speaks for itself and Jerry's letting do his thing.

If anything the refs won't ignore holding by our OL in fact they invent phantom tripping calls.

There are risks involved sure.

a couple of things though.

1. McCarthy’s recent struggles, other than last season, were during times where Rodgers was missing a bunch of games or playing hurt and limited.

2. The Packers went out and got a defense this past off season with a bunch of free agent pick ups.

It may be a sign that McCarthy isn’t all that. It may also just be what it is.

I’ll provide an example that may put your mind at ease.

The eagles last season with Andy Reid. They went 4-12.

the next season they went 10-6 and made the playoffs with Chip friggin Kelly as their head coach.

did that mean Andy wasn’t a good coach?

Obviously we will know a lot more when the season begins.

well put. Also Matt LaFleur might just also be a really good coach. Him and Rodgers might get along better, could make for a better culture and dynamic. Also, McCarthy only won 1 super bowl but he went to 4 nfc championship games. That to me tells me he’ll put your players in a position to win

They say the same things in Green Bay about McCarthy as we say about Garrett here.

So we'll see.

I wouldn't worry about it. Plus, I'd doubt Green Bay will do very well against the 49ers this weekend.

And still with GB not getting FA’s and injuries all over the place, just like Philly this season, they beat us twice under JG. Once on the road with Tony, and once at home with a rookie Dak.
Huh? Green bay sign BOTH Smith's & S Amos lol...do u even watch the ganes?

Green bay invested in their defense for the first time in over a decade thats why they are where they are

Rodgers hasnt looked all world this season.....he just doesn’t turn the ball over but hes not 4 tds and 350 yards kinda guy this year

This, there D is what is doing the trick. The Smith brothers are killing it. For us only one side produced like both sides for them.

Luck? You don't luck into 13 wins and a 2 seed and a conference championship appearance. I get thinking they might not be as good as the remaining teams but to pass it off as luck is silly. They play solid ball on both sides now. Used to be lopsided. All Rodgers and no defense or run game.

What was the odds of Titans getting to the conference championship before the playoffs started going through NE and Baltimore on the road back to back?

Football isn't played on paper. Also, their odds are going to be low because no one is in the class right now of SF and KC. They are easily the 2 best teams remaining. Doesn't mean GB is overrated.

"The whole time?" You mean other than all those divisions titles, conference games, and that Super Bowl?

Well, one reason the GB running is improved is because the new head coach LaFleur has shown dedication to the ground game that Mac never did.

Another reason is that LaFleur featured Aaron Jones all season while McCarthy stubbornly started Ty Montgomery for 1/2 the 2018 season rather than Jones.

Mac's approach to the running game was one of bafflement for most Packer fans.

I remember this, it wasn't just Ty Montgomery it was it was Jamaal Williams. It was clear as day to EVERYONE that Aaron Jones was legit as hell and should have been getting ALL of the carries.. but McCarthy was too damn stubborn to give him the carries, so he split them amongst Williams and Jones pissing off everyone.

Tompson, their GM held back on the free agency market so that eventually they have a reason to fire McCarthy. Coupled by Rogers poor leadership and wanting to blame everyone but himself on why he isn't as dominant as he used to be.

if you read the article that was put out by bleacher report, McCarthy wanted to run the ball. But Rogers changed up the plays so that they would stop running it. Rogers, not McCarthy was at fault for not running it more.
