I would have cut Ty Crawford before the season started last year. He was a good player and leader but his pay never matched his performance, and Injuries and age caught up to him. But in typical Cowboys fashion, they too often hang onto veteran players too long. It’s better to cut a guy a year early than a year late.

I think MM will make this roster have many new faces in 2020 in an attempt to strengthen the roster and reform the culture.

That is correct.

You release Crawford, Olawale, Fleming, Jones you create around 16 million extra cap and Olawale and Jones are due 3.5 million next year.

No thanks.
That’s not that much to me. I mean Crawford and Olawale you can replace....I’m not sure if you can get a better swing tackle at the price you got Fleming for though and I’m not interested in using a draft pick to find one.

If I’m not mistaken Crawford got hung on to because he played two positions and his cap hit was high at the time. Crawford is one of our better linemen but there is a price to pay for that. Not what they are paying.

This was the problem with the entire coaching staff. There was TOO MUCH of this versatility crap. They Never let a player be good or great at any one position. I think Crawford could have been better id they left him at just one position. They paid him on potential as Jerry often did at that time. It din't work, but they still kept him.
He wasn't horrible, but held on him for too long.

I thought we had like 18 or so that WEREN'T under contract

My list is pretty up to date, as of a week ago.
There are 24 FA's, 3 RFA's, 2 ERFA's

I have 39 signed players, and 7 signed to Reserve / Futures contracts, so that is 46. So I need to look at that link and compare to my spreadsheet.
2 of those signed players, Fleming and Olawale have club options. Bye releasing them, they save I think, $6.7 million in cap space.

There are 3 players from the PS that have not signed any Reserve / Futures contracts yet.

Isnt that what we all want Connor Williams to be?

Third year. He is either going to get better or be a JAG

Any other team and Crawford would have been gone a while ago.

I posted we only have 46 according to my spreadsheet.

2 players on this list on the link, Randy Gregory is suspended, so I did not count him.
Lance Lenoir, I am pretty sure was released from IR before the season started as they reached an injury settlement. So I did not count him either.
Which makes my 46.

He was listed on IR from the wikipedia website, but was never listed on IR on the team site. The team site does leave a lot to be desired, as wikipedia always seemed to be more up to date and much sooner than the team site. So he could still be on IR. I have not checked either roster on each site since the season ended.

I would say, 21 of those guys are just bodies.
While this is true, so are most of our FA's. We do have some decisions to make, and we will lose some contributors. But its not like we are losing most of our core players.

Its alot of churning. Possibly why they snuck so many on IR last year

I really hope they know whats going on with Gregory. If Quinn walks and Gregory doesnt get reinstated then we are in trouble.

I think the league year starts around mid March or so. Supposedly Gregory had applied for reinstatement back in October. If he didn't, he can then in mid March or after. Maybe or hopefully something gets resolved soon after. However, they need to sign Quinn, as we should not count on Gregory even if reinstated.

I personally thought he was decent. Wasn't a end rusher but he was always solid against the run. Just a good guy. He was like that Jack Crawford guy we use to have. I think Cowboys thought his ceiling was higher than what it really became.

I'll be honest I don't even know what position Connor Williams plays. We drafted him as a tackle and he's played guard for us and then they drafted McGovern who I assume they want to play guard. So yeah I guess if Connor can play swing tackle that will work but I don't know if he's shown enough to even say what position he is. I just don't want another Chaz Green situation where we find out what he is once he has to start for us and its a disaster.
