They better get to work on FA plan because they can't fill all their holes with the draft.

I been saying this before the season started that nothing is going to get done for anybody until this deal gets done. Agents would be stupid to make a deal before its done, or they stop negotiating and announce there would be no new deal this offseason.

Couldn't this backfire on them?
I mean how many teams are out there firing away at FA’s? Everyone is slowing their process due to the CBA, it effects everyone. They can’t even tag people right away because no one knows how many tags they have without the CBA vote.

I know we are impatient fans but give it a week or two after this CBA is voted on and you’ll see the whole league pick it up

If this is our plan for free agency thank god.

Read these and let it sink in.....

I remember the Hurns/ Thompson year and claims how we scored and were off to the races. It’s all a crap shoot!

Exactly. This can make negotiations even better. If they add the 17 game and playoff format. They’re going to ask for way more money and it’s justifiable.

All but Iloka were good value, and we had a couple of good value trades for key players in Quinn and Bennett. Also got Devin Smith, who for some reason they hated and wouldn't play.

If you expect us to do more in the offseason than that, prepare for disappointment every season.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Stephen Jones continues to play the waiting game — just like every other NFL team executive.

Until they get answers, nobody is ready to move.

While the Dallas executive vice president made it clear Monday he wants a long-term commitment with quarterback Dak Prescott, intends to re-sign receiver Amari Cooper and hopes to bring back cornerback Byron Jones all before they become free agents, the uncertainty over next season’s league rules has essentially put everything on hold.

“We’re going to have some challenges. And certainly with Dak and Amari and that’s going to shrink (cap space) in a hurry,” Jones said. “It’s going to be something that we’re going to have see if there’s a CBA or if there’s not a CBA. If there’s not a CBA, things will get a lot tougher because of the rules.”

Last week, NFL owners approved the proposed new deal but the NFLPA’s executive committee voted 6-5 not to recommend it.

The rank and file players are expected to vote on the deal, possibly as soon as Wednesday, after league and union representatives meet Tuesday.

If the deal is not ratified, the league’s rules would revert to those previously negotiated in the current 10-year deal, which stipulate player salary increases be capped at 30 percent of their previous salary this season and for any additional years on the contract. Team executives also could use the franchise tag on one player and the transition tag on another.

That would gives Jones an opportunity to keep Prescott and Cooper without negotiating new deals, though he declined to speculate which direction he might go or prefer to go.

And while it may appear having two additional days to make decisions could work in the Cowboys’ favor, Jones said that’s not necessarily true.

He said he has not spoken with Prescott’s agent since September and hasn’t spoken with Cooper or his agent since the Super Bowl.

The reason: Nobody knows which rules they’ll be playing by.

Maybe if enough teams hold off on the players new contracts then it will be a push to get it approved by both sides. Lots of important decisions for players futures.

Just from a contract sides teams need to know what they are dealing with. I was reading an article on the Falcons they too are waiting on how this CBA goes before they commit to any deals, they are not alone others too need to know what exactly they have to deal with it before they pull the trigger on big contracts.

Why is Stephen saying it'll be tougher to keep both dak and Amari without a new cba? Isn't the general feeling that no new cba = 2 tags which means it will be easier to keep both?

Guessing they are expecting more money and cap room. Just not sure how much more. Will be a scramble by agents of FA players to grab the cash.

You still have to assess and do your due diligence.....you can't wait till the CBA deal is passed to begin....it's called being proactive.

I'm assuming alot of teams have similar thoughts about how the new cba could effect their plans in FA moving forward, and while Dak and Amari are top priorities, we need alot more help.

Looking at that list of what weve done in FA in years past is pretty bad. I know we dont have unlimited funds but we need immediate starters at multiple positions and the draft wont cover it all.

I could see us signing Dak and Amari and then going cheap everywhere else just to fill in positions as weve done in the past. I really hope that's not the case but that has been their way of operating recently.

Stephen stated the obvious that Dak and Amari would eat alot of available space quickly, I'm just hoping that isnt the early hint that after we sign them we are only looking for bottom of the barrel bargains the rest of the way.

I'm sure they already have a shopping list made. They're just being prudent with the money until the fate of the cba is known. Not likely it will be passed very quickly.

Dak is our quarterback, he’s our quarterback of the future,” Jones added.

Cooper appears to be next in the pecking order and then Jones will go down the list.

That's all I needed to read. Sorry haters. NOT! :muttley:

so it's not because Dak is demanding $40 million per year. Color me surprised.
