Good vid.. Sounds like they think some team like Miami could get stupid and offer Cooper tons of money.

If Dak will take $35MM/year, I don't know what they are waiting for. Once Mahomes gets a deal, the price is probably north of $40MM/year.

Let's face it -- the Cowboys aren't the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to trading and signing players.

They might have traded their #1 round rights for a year and change for a receiver who goes to another team.

Perhaps they didn't do their homework when it came to discovering he had a bad foot that would haunt him?
In any event, it appears possible that they might be forced to settle for an early pick of a WR in the next draft. :omg:

So pay a mediocre player because a good one will get paid more in a few years?

Pay a quality starter because without him you are irrelevant for the next 5-7 years while you try to find another.

They messed this up when they did not offer 36m at the start of last year. Now he is in a position where he will average more than 36 or 37 million, depending on game 17, so now to get him to sign longer you need to go to 40m. They played themselves and now they are at risk of being in the worst position in the NFL in 2 years: being a team without a QB.

Not unless they trade or sign him this offseason. But could've traded him during the season if that was the case.

Yes. I think the Cowboys had a set idea of what they wanted to pay Dak and evidently, Dak and his agent had their price set, also. The other alternative seemed to be exactly what they ended up doing. It's hard for us to say if both sides were "acting in good faith" or not. What happened, apparently, was the best solution for the time being. Maybe when they get back to bargaining next year, things will be easier for both parties to agree to a contract.

This whole Dak contract has gotten so far out of hand that the Cowboys had to use the transition tag to regroup. This upcoming year will decide the direction they go. If Dak has another season like last season he wont get paid because he isnt winning the big games. If he doesnt play well they wont want him even at less money. If he balls out and leads this team to an NFC championship game the man will get Mahomes type money.

All Dak wants is to be able to renegotiate again when he's 29/30 Years old. 4 years is his MAX. Cowboys want 5 and probably an option year. If Dak balls out this coming year then its going to be 38/40M to sign him next year If he makes the NFCCG or Superbowl.

What s difference a year makes.

About this time in 2019, we were debating whether Dak was worth as much as $22mil-$25mil — with some “radicals” opining he might be worth $25-$28mil.

I usually avoid hindsight but, looking back, we coulda probably tied him up at $28-$29mil for 3-4 seasons (@Kirk Cousins money) a year ago.

Que sera, sera.

I said a year ago that the Cowboys should have tied up Dak with a $30-$32 mil/year contract for 4 years, but I was called stupid. Well, time proves who was right once again. You get greedy (disrespectful) with your stud franchise QB, you pay the price.

Im sure the Titans were irrelevant without their starter...our offense is too stacked to be irrelevant, but we know without a QB and defense we wont get a ring. With Dak and no defense we can all mostly agree there's no championship in sight. No matter how much support dak has on offense we need a defense. Why limit ourselves? If we find someone better at QB maybe we can get away with less on defense, because it appears defense is going to be average/below average yet again.

Clearly....you are big on Dak. Dak is the Jason Garrett of QBs. If EVERYTHING is right...he can guide you to some wins. SEVERAL QBs could have gone 8-8 last year. And spare me with Daks numbers. I watched the games and I've watched football for a long time. I have a good read on who Dak is and who he is not. And you have to have to many things around him be perfect for Dak to elevate a team
